I'm a big ABBA fan, but I was a little let down by the album. Majority of the songs were really slow, and kinda boring. I love them for their disco/dance hits, and this album was mainly just ballads. To each their own I guess.

But I will admit, I haven't been able to get "When You Danced With Me" and "Keep an Eye on Dan" out of my head all day. They should have promoted with those, they're a lot of fun. "No Doubt About It" is catchy too!

Good number imo. They have 40 years of career, no streaming etc...Ed Sheeran was predicted 134k last week, if ABBA can put 80k in sales, is huge for them.

Surprised by Summer Walker, wow. 200k? when she became so huge in the US?

the scars on my mind are on replay.

If you were really a big fan you would know they are not just disco hits and most of their best songs are these really good pop songs, also they are 70+ years old Lmao, the ballads are good :laughga:

Can ya'll stop saying they were never that big in the US?

"Not big in the US" are artists like Kylie Minogue, Take That or Little Mix. ABBA have FOUR top 10 singles on the Hot 100 among COUNTLESS Top 20 singles (back then a Top 20 single was considered a hit) and an album that sold 6x Platinum. If Kylie released an effort after 40 years it would NOT debut in the Top 20, yet ABBA are predicted to go #2. C'mom, #2 for a group that last had a US #1 40-something years ago? Ok, maybe they're not as big as the rest of the world but they are still big and songs like Dancing Queen or Mamma Mia are EXTREMELY famous in the US.

i don't think you understand perspective. people are only saying they weren't that big in the us because they really weren't when you compare it to europe. abba dominated europe. and your answer of 'they have a lot of top 10s and top 20s' is only considered 'not that big' because in europe you measure their success by the number of number ones they have. they're very big in america, but not that big when compared to their domination over european charts.

I know, lol. I just said that those are my faves. I'm aware of their other discography! I think the album had potential, just wish we got some more pop/dance mixed in to balance it out. :)

Most of their albums were top 20 on the billboard 200, their last studio album (The Visitors) was #29, compared to UK chart (The Visitors was #1 album there), so..

We are comparing them to europe popularity, were there they have plenty of #1 albums and singles. Since GH, their albums has been #1 on the UK charts.

Their last three singles cant be found on the hot 100 lol

ALSO, they had 80k preorders on the UK just in three days

I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but I think people are only buying it and giving it any praise because it's ABBA. All these songs sound dated and have really cringey lyrics. They should've left well enough alone and gone out as legends standing on the shoulders of their greatest hits, I don't think there was actually demand for new music and bands who reunite after this length of time rarely make music on par with their earlier work. There's a song about Santa filling up stockings and one about bumblebees, these subject matters for songs after this length of time is very questionable. Seriously, if anyone else made this album, especially after this length of time, it would've been laughed out the room. There's 2 gems on it (I Can be That Woman and Ode To Freedom) but otherwise, mediocre at best. I wonder if, in their hearts, they knew it too, which is why they've come back only to announce this is their last ever album. It's like they did this album out of obligation and weren't really feeling it, is what I'm saying.

75k is fantastic tbh

People seems to forget that we’re in streaming era, in 2021 anything bigger than 50k is huge:pawsup:

It’s more about the reunion than the album itself

Even if the album serves mediocre quality, I’m sure their fans still appreciate this project.

Me myself surly will freak out if Gaga announces a new album after her retirement. Even if they sound 2008ish

What matters is how they do in the UK, Europe and Australia. That's their main markets.

oh please, shut up, they already said they have nothing to prove to ANYONE. ABBA is well know to make pop songs to be no taken serious (unless you listen to the visitors or something like that) idk why any one would expect something else for them.

I had seen more cringe lyrics from Lana del Rey (and you should know about that lmao) and the album is not mediocre (either is their best work), is just a little fun project they decided to do after recording the first two singles for the residency 'cause they actually liked to be back in the studio having fun and stuff (talking about Agnetha and Frida), it sounds like classic ABBA, why would the sound of their album be like Dua Lipa, Ed Sheran or any current artist?  pre-sale numbers on the uk talks alone about if people wanted ned music or not.

I love them and some of their new songs but their new album sounds stuck in the 70s and 80s. I get that they are going for nostalgia, but it is 2021 now.
