as excellent as it is, drivers license had NO cultural impact, only had like a massive surge of popularity. also Adison Rae

I would also credit Cher's Believe with popularising autotune in an artistic way

Billie Jean, the beginning of Black artists getting proper rotation of their music videos on MTV. MJ broke that barrier

I actually don't like Britney but she definitely was a reset because she was the one who popularised the kind of Disney Girl turns pop megastar model that has moulded artists like Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Zendaya, Demi, etc.

Yeah. Even though she might not have created a completely new sound, she was the first of the 'girl next door' pop stars and was a total phenomenon

But that's been done so many times already, this is a fun spin on the project

Also for all our theatre kids out there, any musicals that need to be on this list? Sound of Music? Grease? Another?

i am NOT going to add Britney, clearly you guys want her, she might be iconic, might be popular, she prob had a lot of wannabes but SONICALLY she didn't change anything, without the teen pop sound that boy bands brought or that sweedish girl (forgot the name) they would not be Britney. Help us @Gimme More

GIRL YOU REALLY WANTED ME TO DEFEND WHAT YOU SAID?!

Britney had a massive impact on pop! People were looking for the next Britney...

Also I think for boyband would be either NSYNC or Backstreet Boys, whichever came first

DC were slightly earlier but were more rnb, with Spice Girls being pure pop

Actually DC's first single came out in 1997 and Spice Girls' Wannabe was in 1996, even though DC were already active since the early 90s, the Spice Girls are the ones who dictated what a successful Girl Band would look like.
