Worked at an amazon warehouse for a few months - the pain you have to put up with is really not worth it, you're basically standing or walking for 10 hours, you can't have your phone with you/listen to music which makes a shift mind-crushingly dull... and then the pain in the legs kicks in - for the first 5 hours its fine, but the last 3 are excruciating... I quit after realizing I genuinely would rather die than work there :enigma:

The part about standing for 10h and not being able to listen to music is pretty common tho. My last 3 jobs (inclduing the one i have now) are the exact same thing. Ur always standing or walking and cant have ur phone or music. I have my phone now but only cuz my new position requires it but i still cant listen to music lol

But as far as the pace ive heard its insane

Those jobs can f*ck off too :enigma:

There's really no reason you can't have at least one ear plugged in, they provide you with ear plugs ffs, they don't expect you to have perfect hearing

The one I worked before that was in a freezer and I loved it but after about 9 months it started taking a serious toll on my body I still haven't recovered from, so that combined with the fact it took over an hour to commute one way sealed the deal... But while listening to music wasn't allowed, basically everyone was doing it, managers absolutely didn't care, and everyone was better for it...

Well i dunno about amazon but in the jobs ive been in i get it. Theres safety concerns not to mention ppl are f*cking deaf

I have a few coworkers who break the no music rule and u have to always scream at them to get their attention...

If they are that deaf with u screaming they certainly wouldnt hear something coming at them :toofunny:

I think its fine if ur sitting in an office doing something repetitive and mundane like data entry and workplace hazards are next to none...

In most industrial settings tho i think the rule makes total sense tbh

The big issue with amazon is how they treat their workers...

But economically i think wed be worse off if they were gone...

Most retail jobs amazon displaces in places like Walmart pay less (and most retail places dont treat their workers all that well either) and while paying their workers more than traditional retail they also sell stuff cheaper than traditional retail

I agree Capitalism as a whole sucks i wont argue there (especially the way its becone very chrony in the last 40 years) but if u were to go after specific individual companies im not sure amazon is where id start

They can pay their employees the way they do and price their items that way because of how they treat their employees though.

If ur refering to our cost of living from insane rents and home prices even $30/h isnt enough at this point :toofunny:

I make more than the average person ($26/h) and if i moved out on my own id still struggle with how real estate is :enigma:

But @dit is right. Not a whole lot of entry level jobs that require no experience or post secondary go much higher than that. U can find a few here and there especially as a laborer in the trades but other than that u wont find much...

Most entry level jobs tend to go from $14/h to $17/h... on occasion $18 if ur lucky

What was the rationale for abandoning the minimum wage = living wage 🥲

It’s getting sad. There’s less and less good reasons to stay here and not bolt to Europe

Honestly i dont think any minimum wage will make life affordable here. Housing is whats truly making life unaffordable because we have a severe housing shortage

We have less housing units per population than any G7 Nation and would need another 1.4 Million Units to hit the average which is a lot of Units in a Nation of 38 million. Thats how acute the shortage has become

More demand than supply means the market will always be bid up in a way to be expensive relative to incomes because a lot of ppl have to be bid out of markets and stay living with their parents because there isnt enough units for everyone :rip:

So higher wages will only mean ppl can bid the market higher. It wont fix the issue essentially

So in my opinion fixing the housing crisis will do a lot more to help struggling Canadians than the minimum wage because its whats draining all our incomes

The minimum wage at full time can buy food and everyday items... it cannot buy housing... $20/h cant even buy rental housing if ur by urself without a second income, ull be penny pinching

I think Housing and Childcare costs are the 2 main culprits of high cost of living but even childcare low income or single parents can usually get assistance... putting a roof over ur head tho is so expensive it doesnt leave u with much left for ur other bills even tho ideally what we earn SHOULD cover those other bills
