I wouldnât really call it a âtrendâ as it began decades ago, and it was really Liberace, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis who started residencies or âtouring in place.â She definitely changed it though by bringing it back to popularity in the 21st century. I think there are LOTS of other reasons that could be added to that. What is a fact though is that the casinos and hotels were having trouble getting 20-30 year oldâs butts in seats. Now that they are able to do that, there are tons of contemporary artists (JLo, Bruno Mars, Gaga, Katy) that see it as viable for their work. That doesnât mean they will all of a sudden have their peak stardom again, but instead some trajectory to use for more music or another path. Careers arenât dead because an artist isnât charting like they used to lol. Queen of inventions It sort of started with Britney, but being under the conservatorship, she wasnât able to capitalize on it and make it bigger than just a residency. Gaga definitely followed the Britney blueprint but had the freedom to execute it better, is my opinion. Â I also think Gaga does it brilliantly having two shows.
