I have a hard time seeing any pop star going to Vegas if Britney didn’t in 2013. She’s definitely the one who has been credited with revitalizing the concert residency in the modern landscape, plus adding a whole fanbase/generation into that business as a consumer.

Lol i think you forget about Celine who really started the residency trend 😛

Giving Gaga some competition!! I hope their dates line up so I could potentially see Jazz & Piano + After Dark and Adele in the same weekend! Literally HEAVEN :diane:

Makes perfect sense for her since she hates touring and this way she can still perform live for an audience.

also great for other artists cuz most of the people who go see residencies go to more than one.

Oh true. I wouldn’t really call it a “trend” as it began decades ago, and it was really Liberace, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis who started residencies or “touring in place.” She definitely changed it though by bringing it back to popularity in the 21st century. With Britney, I was specifically talking about the fan demographics that she would share with people like Gaga or Katy that would appeal to them to try it out.

I hope she also does at least some shows in Europe etc as well though.
Since she's from the UK, she like MUST have at least some shows in the UK, right?

Britney Spears literally perpetuated the stereotype careers go to die in vegas after her commercial career went in a downward spiral after vegas :rip:

I wasn’t commenting on her career *after* Vegas, and considering all we know now about what her “career” has been like since 2008, it would be hard to determine if having a residency would be any cause for a decline. I think there are LOTS of other reasons that could be added to that. What is a fact though is that the casinos and hotels were having trouble getting 20-30 year old’s butts in seats. Now that they are able to do that, there are tons of contemporary artists (JLo, Bruno Mars, Gaga, Katy) that see it as viable for their work. That doesn’t mean they will all of a sudden have their peak stardom again, but instead some trajectory to use for more music or another path. Careers aren’t dead because an artist isn’t charting like they used to lol. There wouldn’t be a business side to the music industry if that were true.

katy is nothing but if adele came in to the las vegas league, then, gaga's ticket price might be moved lower...

as you know, gaga's las vegas residency was the best selling, highest price, highest grossing per show concert for current 5 years...

but if adele comes in, then it might be little changed...

GAGA BE READY FOR ADELE!!!

im a stan so im biased but vegas residencies were considered retirement plans, sort of end of career gigs. then gaga came and made them cool. Queen of inventions

It sort of started with Britney, but being under the conservatorship, she wasn’t able to capitalize on it and make it bigger than just a residency. Gaga definitely followed the Britney blueprint but had the freedom to execute it better, is my opinion.

I also think Gaga does it brilliantly having two shows. It hits every Vegas crowd with a killer show which helps bring the creativity the residency concept needed

Eeeeeehhhhhh I think maybe for jazz and piano but enigma captures a totally different audience than Adele :ladyhaha: like, it’s comparing 21 to Born This  Way all over again. They couldn’t be more different, ya know?
