I’ve never understood how the three bonus tracks aren’t on the standard edition whilst Bad Kids and Highway Unicorn made the cut. :bradley:

She took special care weaving the songs into the tracklist in the just the right places for the Deluxe, rather than just letting them be tacked onto the end of the album.  I feel like that is very uncommon.  Are there any other Deluxe editions of albums where the extra tracks were properly woven in like this?

I love them all. I can't listen to the standard edition. I hate the whole standard vs deluxe edition thing in music.

YES!!! I actually like what Taylor has been doing where she will release the album for streaming first with only the standard edition then when the physical releases come out they are deluxe edition only and the deluxe edition also gets released onto streaming. I love how she does that ugh I ****ing love Taylor.

Don't be making fun of Bad Kids like that. Also, Highway Unicorn would have been better if the song was shortened (like the BTWB or maybe a little longer than that).

They are cute songs and I love them but I prefer the standard version of the album. Of course everything worked out fine and BTW is an extremely iconic album. But I think that it could turn into an instant classic at the time and be acclaimed if it had 10 tracks. Like a Thriller/Like a prayer type of album. And then when the tour started she could release a tour edition EP with the other tracks so they also could have their shining moment. I would separate it like this:

BTW Standard Edition (May 23rd 2011)

01. Marry The Night

02. Born This Way

03. Judas

04. Hair

05. Scheisse

06. Bloody Mary

07. Heavy Metal Lover

08. Electric Chapel

09. You and I

10. The Edge Of Glory

BTW Tour Edition EP 2012 (it would come with the standard edition like The Fame Monster)

01. Government Hooker

02. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion

03. Americano

04. Bad Kids

05. Fashion Of His Love

06. Highway Unicorn (Road To Love)

07. The Queen

I guarantee you the standard edition would get an 85-90 on Metacritic. Now let me take my meds and go back to bed.

Love this, honestly I think the album was too long, even tho it is great, I always get tired after listening to the first half (sorry)

The standard edition of albums are the ones reviewed by critics and up for awards. So artists often take off tracks that don't quite fit the narrative or are weaker so they aren't criticized in reviews bringing down the album's acclaim.

Anything goes for the deluxe edition. With BTW, those 3 songs didn't really fit the message of empowerment and equality as strong as other tracks.

The Queen's outro is so magical

"I will fly in a challenger across the sky, like a phoenix so you can remind them of the dream I bore"

Some of my favorite lyrics she's ever written :bradley:

Because "deluxe versions" with bonus tracks were a popular sales strategy to upcharge fans at that time.

When I first heard Fashion Of His Love my first thought was “#1”. It should’ve replaced Bad Kids or Highway Unicorn. The standard tracklist should be:

1. Marry The Night

2. Born This Way

3. Government Hooker

4. Judas

5. Fashion Of His Love

6. Hair

7. Scheiße

8. Bloody Mary

9. Black Jesus Amen Fashion

10. Heavy Metal Lover

11. Yoü And I

12. The Edge Of Glory

This but with Government Hooker on the standard

Do you hear that? It's poison.

I agree. The "standard version" of Born This Way is awful. I remember back in 2012, my iPod broke so I had to borrow my bf's. I went to listen to Born This Way and was literally shook when Bad Kids came right after Bloody Mary instead of Black Jesus + Amen Fashion  :lmao:

wasn't BJ+AF Right after BTW? :bear:
