Yeah, she's like...the average amount of patriotic here in the US. I do kind of want to wrestle patriotism back from all the right wingers, though. It's weird cause I was just watching the James Baldwin doc and I recall that great quote he gives about how he loves America and that's why he criticizes her.

Exactly. Sad how the right wing cosplayers stole the flag. It’s kinda brainworms to think criticizing America = hating it (whats good @Whispering who said I hate ha :gaycat:). If you actually love something, you’d actually wanna see it thrive :huntyga: That includes speaking out when its not cute to do so. Plus she’s constantly fought to make it a better place and has a lot of impact in doing so. She’s near the peak of a political icon without actually being in office and I love that for her <3

Americans loves to trash other's patriotism so I always see it hypocritical.

They always say "nationalism and patriotism is a different thing" when it comes to their country, but they don't seem to apply it on other countries.. the moment you love your country you are a fascist :awkney:

Actually yes. Many of you don’t have the reason to, but I’ve seen the other side of the medal. The other side of Clintons and Biedens who destroyed my country and killed innocent people. She should know the facts. And have in mind that there is a world other than US.

Being a patriot does not necessarily mean that one should campaign for every rotten politician out there. They’re all the same, just with slightly different shades.

Patriotism bothers me. I’ve saw what it’s done to the UK with us leaving the EU.

What we saw with Brexit is not patriotism. It was 'British' nationalism. Patriotism to me is being proud of where you come from, wanting to do good by your country, wanting the best for your country, supporting the national team in sporting events (if you're into sport)... its not the flag waving nonsense and "get out of my country" sh*te we saw with Brexit.

If you feel as sense of pride that you're Scottish, that's patriotism. If the national anthem gets you choked up, that's patriotism. If you want to support Scotland in sporting tournaments, that’s patriotism. If you feel connected to Scotland, that’s patriotism.

If you start going on the way Nigel Farage goes on about rejecting 'foreigners' because you believe they make the UK bad or whatever, that's nationalism.

At least that's the way I see it

Yes and no. I think she's using her platform very intentionally to ensure that her actions create an impact that betters this country/is very anti-Trump. Yet at the same time, the way she STANS Biden and Hillary is a major turn off. With Biden in particular it's a complex situation for her having run an anti sexual harrasment campaign while clear evidence of Biden being a creep exists as well as his history voting against immigrant rights and gay marriage. I don't believe in stanning politicians esp since most of them end up being war criminals in one way or another. I'm conflicted by her potential obligation to make certain public opinions to help influence public opinion vs. a more radical Gaga and a Gaga that really feels like she embodies the progressive future I and other QTBIPOC folks envision and fight for. Patriotism and nationalism can be very toxic because it *often* ignores holding those in power accountable while only upholding an imperialist regime regardless of politics. Her actions seem a little "safe." I want socialist Gaga. I want "f*ck the system entirely" Gaga. Which is what I feel she used to embody but doesn't anymore. So yes, it bothers me, but I cannot comprehend/grasp being in her situation with her privilege and platform. She might just be doing what might most help us get to that more progressive place despite having to confirm to the system. It's so tremendously nuanced and complex. End of the day, I do see her fighting to be on the right side of history but a part of me is wondering what she'd be capable of with a more radical imagination. What if she played it less safe? I can't help but think of the "arrest me Russia" video and wonder where that Gaga went. I stand by the philosophy of eating the rich and do think too many stans kiss her *ss and worship her every move (while some also degrade and judge her every move). It's SO complex so honestly while I adore her, her choices have only made me more inclined to follow in some of her footsteps, but to really not worship anyone and really be critical and form my own decisions and opinions. Gaga is MOTHER. And sometimes moms are problematic. Kindness is ESSENTIAL and a major *step* but sometimes she makes me feel like she wants to stand on all sides and be all inclusive while some people in this country incite insurrection and would rather QTBIPOC like me be dead.

It doesn’t bother me at all that she’s involved in politics. You can tell that she keeps up with news and everything and even talks about it if they ask her.

The thing is, yes Trump was terrible but the way she sided with Clinton and Biden as if they were the “good ones” is just something that made me feel confused a little bit.

I mean people were probably desperate to vote ANYONE that was against Trump so he gets kicked so I can understand that. Just the way she was acting as if she were a fan of years of these two people. I guess I’m just glad to see her using her voice and platform to raise awareness and kindness but that was too extra.

I feel this a lot! But given US history it's hard to feel patriotic. So much recently had exposed how much this nation isn't what it thinks it is and is not the illusion it pretends to be, i.e. polticians and the inauguration tends to use the phrase and idea of a "more perfect nation". We are very privileged in this country and have resources others don't have but too often it's based on systems of inequality. I don't hold a patriotism for this country, while I do hold a passion for those who live here and deserve better. So many Black and Indigenous folks where either brought here against their will or taken over against their will. It's the condition and land we are defaulted to experience. This nation is NOT inherently great. And that needs to change.

Yes I dislike it

Nationalism/Patriotism same thing. Only exists to blind the masses. There's nothing special about the random place you were born in.

Spoiler

I hate even more that she talks like a centrist now even though 2010 Gaga would have literally thrown stones at far right people

I don’t like it but it doesn’t bother me, I accept that is part of her. What really bothers me is her support for politicians, especially Biden.

She was screaming at Obama and demanding his attention to end Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell but now she calls Biden a wonderful person & her friend when there are things she should be yelling at him about if you know what I mean.

Gaga, like all of us, is imperfect, and there are aspects to her character that I can find unappealing. When it comes to her politics, at least publicly, she seems to talk in... broad-strokes. She's a caring, empathetic person who rightly recoils at social conservatism but in other respects I imagine she's not quite as progressive as someone like me might prefer. For example, I wouldn't be surprised if our Queen of Capitalism (buy my make up on Amazon!) is more Biden than Sanders on fiscal policy. And yes, I do find some of her more overt displays of American patriotism off-putting.

But she's a pop star, I don't need her to share my politics, because I'm not going to vote her into office! Her heart is in the right place where it matters, and for me, that's usually enough.

i despise all patriotism but not at all, it's her choice to feel how feels.

I don't see her patriotism as the "USA! USA!" kind, but more like an idea of inclusiveness and equality for all. So no, it doesn't bother me, she stands for what's right and I appreciate that.
