No, the whole point of Chromatica is to be a tribute to 90's house and dance pop. It's like going to the roots of the era that gave her her success. It really is a tribute and a celebration of that sound mixed with some modern sound. Chromatica isn't revolutionary because that's not the point. It's like future nostalgia, a tribute to a certain sound. That was the whole point and why Gaga made a 90's house playlist before the album dropped and used diana ross samples, etc. Chromatica should be treated as a tribute album in a way.

tbh ALL of her albums take her raw emotions and filter them into pop songs.

Of course Gaga has contracts, but she genuinely cares about this artistic pop process. She's stated it countless times.

Personally, I think she's just learned to live a more balanced, meaningful life. With a focus on mental health, versatility and advocacy, while still maintaining a relationship with pop music and its artistic process.

Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

Mother of Puppies

I still think Chromatica is her best album.

Which makes it even worse that Covid stopped proper promotion and the tour.... oh well

I don't understand how people can say that Chromatica is not so personal to her, when those lyrics exist:

I'd do anything to numb the flame
I guess I'm just on fire these days
I can't see straight, I can't see me
There's too much hurt caught in between
Wish I could be what I know I am
This moment's hijacked my plans

Turning up emotional faders
Keep repeating self-hating phrases
I have heard enough of these voices
Almost like I have no choice
This is biological stasis
My mood's shifting too manic places
Wish I laughed and kept the good friendships
Watch life, here I go again

Keep my dolls inside diamond boxes
Save them 'til I know I'm gon' drop this
Front I've built me around my oasis
Paradise is in my hand
Holding on so tight to this status
It's not real but I'll try to grab it
Keep myself in beautiful places
Paradise is in my hands

Every single day, yeah, I dig a grave
Then I sit inside it wondering if I'll behave
It's a game I play and I hate to say
You're the worst thing and the best thing that's happened to me

This is my dancefloor I fought for
Ain't hard, that's what I'm livin' for

I need you to listen to me
Please, believe me
I'm completely lonely
Please, don't judge me
When your tears are falling
I'll catch them as they fall

I need you to listen to me
Please, don't leave me
I'm not perfect yet
But I'll keep trying
When your tears are falling
I'll catch them as they fall

Lift me up, give me a start
'Cause I've been flying with some broken arms

Why is she crying, what's the price tag?
Who's that girl, Malibu Gaga?

I lost my love and no one cared
When I was young, I prayed for lightning

Whatever was the impulse for her to make the album, it is a great, cohesive piece. The lyrics and melodies are all super connected and resonant, and it doesn't feel like it's lacking of purpose. If she was going to make an electronic-pop album, this one is as good as I could ask for.

Well yeah she even said Bloodpop had to force her into the studio.

This was a painful album for her to complete. The lyrics alone can tell you all the struggles she is going through. Every song encapsulates some pain she has.

He doesn't force her. He just gave Lady Gaga encouragement because Lady Gaga was desperate.

Nah I just think she’s not stalking her sanity on her albums anymore. She’s got more in her life now so she might give a TON to the work but it isn’t the life or death situation she used to make art out to be. It’s therapy now, not the only thing keeping her tethered to earth lol

Smother Em Eh

She was probably pressured but I don’t think she was “forced”. We needed more pop music and stuff especially after Joanne so it was a good move on her part. I personally think Chromatica could have been better but it’s still a solid pop record.

Apart from Free Woman & Fun Tonight, I don’t think there’s any generic song on the album.
