Pretty sure Denis Villeneuve would never call his film a remake of Lynch's movie, but I guess it's a matter of perspective and all movies adapted from a common source material can be considered remakes, idk. The spice enhances mental capabilities. With it, the characters can do what thinking machines (computers) used to do. Navigating through space by folding it, requires a lot of computational power, hence why the spice is used by the Guild (the Guild has a monopoly on space traveling). Paul can see the "branches" of the future, because of the spice melange. The navigators of the Guild do a similar thing. I wonât judge a book by itâs cover though and will give it a chance. Iâm not expecting much from the original 1984 version either which Iâve never seen, but what I noticr about many pictures from that era is that many were trashed at the time but then acquired a better appreciation decades later. For example The Shining, Raging Bull and Heavenâs Gate were all heavily slammed upon release. But today in retrospective reviews they are considered masterpieces.
