The thing is people always get confused about latin music, thinking that all they do is reggaeton basically. Actually most of it’s music nowadays are called pop with reggaeton and other kinds of latin influences.

I personally think about pop music as being an ongoing cultural movement of different styles and genres being synthesized through the lens of commercial success and cultural impact. Imo, given the success of trap, Latin music, reggaeton etc. on a global level and the way that it effects and interacts with the composition and marketing of pop music, I feel like it’s definitely pop.

Yeah, you guys do make a good point. I think there is a difference between what is viewed as pop in Western countries and Latinx countries. Most people from Westerns countries still see pop as Gaga, Britney, BSB, Katy (and their type of impact, persona etc...) and of the sort, while there are different artists who make pop music in Latinx countries. The gap is certainly getting more and more closed, as you said, pop definitely takes influences from reggaeton, trap... I don't see Bad Bunny as a 100% popstar in a genre sense, but in a cultural viewpoint he had worldwide impact. But, as music evolves, we evolve with it, and opinions are to change. I'm happy to see more Latinx artist getting the deserved recognition!

Aside from the fact I don’t know who Bad Bunny is / they are not the biggest pop star on Earth.. this article is flawless.
