I mean, I don't care, I don't use it but...

This "ban" thing sounds a lot like a China/Russia thing

TikTok actually has 2 iterations, one for China (there called 抖音 pronounced douyin) and one for the rest of the world (TikTok) so I dont see the point of banning an app just because it's from China, like with everything it is your own responsibility to know what you sign up for. And just because some companies SAY they dont spy or use your data or whatever, doesn't mean it's actually true.

So if Chinese companies are collecting information from users it's bad but if American companies are doing the same with other platforms it's fine? :enigma:

honestly this :laughga:

the data tiktok collects is nothing out of the ordinary, every other social media app asks for the same permissions etc

India only banned the app in an act of symbolism due to the border disputes flaring up again

The difference here is that the Chinese government is a communist government that has control over every Chinese corporation and company and can take them over and get whatever they want from them whenever they want.

The US government does not work this way. It is not a communist government and cannot just demand any US company to do as it says. In the US there actually is such thing as private companies and the government can't just take them over or get whatever they want from them. American companies can decline requests and often times these issues are resolved through the courts. The Chinese don't have to go to the courts to get a company to follow on order.

So there is clearly a difference. The Chinese government having that power and taking all that data from TikTok is a huge concern, and is not the same since the US government is not a communist regime and cannot do the same.

Definitely helps to educate yourself and know what you're actually talking about!

OT: TikTok is trash so I wouldn't be bothered by banning it. The Chinese government shouldn't be collecting data on non-Chinese foreign nationals anyway, which they certainly are doing when they take this data from TikTok.

Should ban Zoom if it’s for national security concern (all your meeting informations goes straight into their office in Beijing). TikTok, while did had horrible past on mining user’s personal information, didn’t seem to be that big of threat anyway. But hey, I would love to all those Gen Z FUME.:coffee:

Well I don't know about the national security thing being real but they definitely do not seem okay :air:
