GaGa, or someone close to her,, had a VERY REAL experience.  This is something you would hear at an accident from a paramedic. Paramedics, when on the scene, will use a machine such as the CAREpoint TM EMS Workstation. They put the ECG monitor onto the patient to monitor her heart, with lines on the chest and a ground line on the ankle (that's why you see him grabbing her ankle like he's putting something around it - HE IS). 

   The machine also has leads to give the heart a shock, which is the sharp, stabbing feeling she gets.  Her heart HAD stopped, she had a near death experience (I have experienced this), and the paramedic shocked her back to life.  The machine can also call the hospital so that the paramedics can send a fax of the ECG strip to the hospital and also talk to them and give them patient status info so they can prepare for her before the patient gets there.

   When he asks to "please patch the line", he is asking the other paramedic to press the call button and the machine then patches a call line through to the Hospital's ER.  HOPE THAT'S HELPFUL, FRIENDS!!
