Joanne lyrics:

Take my hand, stay Joanne
Heaven's not ready for you
Every part of my aching heart
Needs you more than the angels do

Girl, where do you think you're goin'?
Where do you think you're goin'
Goin', girl?
Girl, where do you think you're goin'?
Where do you think you're goin'
Goin', girl?

If you could I know that you'd stay
We both know things don't work that way
I promised I wouldn't say goodbye
So I grin and my voice gets thin

Girl, where do you think you're goin'?
Where do you think you're goin'?
Goin', girl?
Girl, where do you think you're goin'?
Where do you think you're goin'?
Goin', girl?

Honestly, I know where you're goin'
And baby, you're just movin' on
And I still love you even if I can't
See you anymore can't wait to see you soar

Girl, where do you think you're goin'?
Where do you think you're goin'
Goin', girl?
Girl, where do you think you're goin'?
Where do you think you're goin'
Goin', girl?

As Gaga has said in interviews, this poem written by Joanne is about her knowing she was going to die. The line in particular I want to point out is the final one: "knowing where I was goin". I think the lyrics in Gaga's Joanne, "girl, where do you think you're goin,'" are a response to this poem.

Joanne knows where she is going, but Gaga is unsure.

It's just so beautiful:heart:

I never knew this poem existed and I never knew that it was printed in The Fame. This makes me want to back to my parent's house to find my CD.

TBH I just wept reading this poem because my dog Stevie died three weeks ago and I was listening to Joanne (the song) specifically a lot that day we had to put her down and the lyrics hit me so hard because she was also young, just simply dying of kidney failure. She was only 7.

I love that poem.

Thank you so much for sharing this!

Wow, I didn't know this!

This is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time

Joanne was such a talented girl.

"I walked and I walked knowing where I was going"! DAMN! That's deep though.

The song (Joanne) has a whole different meaning to me now, everything makes sense.

You're right. She spoke about the song a lot before she performed it at the Joanne World Tour and Gaga spoke specifically about the poem Joanne wrote, and how when she knew she was going to die and in pain, Joanne said "at least I know where I'm goin'.

Gaga has spoken about it a lot actually.

The melody that you choose can rescue you ♥

Wow... I read this poem years ago, and I knew it was written by Joanne, but I never knew she wrote it about knowing she was going to die. Somehow I never made this connection with the song, but it’s beautiful! Joanne is one of my absolute favorite Gaga songs

I mean she keeps using the 74, the year Joanne died as a reference for the Chromatica weather so might be...:oprah:
