"France's Macron defies coronavirus lockdown with elections"

Elections are usually risky for leaders, not for voters. But France's local elections this weekend have raised fears of a health crisis, not just a political one. There has been feverish speculation here about whether holding the poll during an epidemic would be sensible. The government has banned gatherings of more than 100 people, shut schools and universities and suspended big sporting events. But despite labelling coronavirus France's "biggest health crisis in a century", President Emmanuel Macron confirmed this week that Sunday's vote would go ahead."

Meanwhile the country has recorded 800 new cases in the last 24 hours and about 4000 cases in total  :fail::fail::fail::fail:

Apple is closing all its stores outside of China for a couple weeks. It'll be interesting to see what other retailers follow..

They will be delayed inevitably at last. However, this kind of behavior is irresponsible and insane. Boris Johnson is doing even worse preparing for a mass spread of the virus without moving a single finger, based on 'group immunity' which has little scientific basis.

Yikes @ leaders of the world rn.

"The Spanish government is poised to declare a 15-day national lockdown on Monday to battle coronavirus. Under the decree being finalised, people would be allowed out only for emergencies, to buy food, or for work. With 191 deaths and 6,046 infections, Spain is the worst-hit country in Europe after Italy, which declared a nationwide lockdown on Monday. On Friday, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Europe was now the "epicentre" of the pandemic. Italy has seen 1,266 deaths and 17,660 infections. Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged countries to use aggressive measures, community mobilisation and social distancing to save lives. Several European countries have reported steep rises in infections and deaths in recent days."

Spain will be lockdown by Monday. France and Germany are next. Then the UK.

+~400 new cases in France today

-200 compared to yesterday

And as many deaths as yesterday (18)

It is kind of reassuring, I hope it doesn’t peak any further :ohno:
