He hasn't been around since Joanne.  I think he just needed a break.  If you check out his instagram you can see some of the stuff he's been up to.

I feel that way too. 

With PI, to be honest, I didn't really felt like she wanted it as the lead. There's even an interview she did basically saying that her label picked the song. I don't remember which one exactly, but it's definitely one of the radio interviews she did for the mini PI era. 

She really seems to love and appreciate this song and what it stands for. It's great to see that!
