The album is from 1971, so I wonder if the younger generation will relate to it.  Then again, the songs are so good they should stand the test of time.  Some things are forever.  Let me know what you think.

Will do!

I need to listen to that Joni Mitchell album. :tony:

I totally agree with you. I think it comes down to that any given number means something different to different people. But I guess that's what a megarate is about.

Joni's album "Blue" is a literal masterpiece. Can't recommend it enough

You can also see if you agreed with the results we got from 2017:

@Ronk I read through it and it brought back so many memories

Bubblegum Bitch

@rumours I'm sorry I couldn't attend the Ceremony: it was kind of too late in my timezone, I was almost sleeping.

I'd like to say thank you for this opportunity to listen to Dolly's music, because I only listened to Jolene before (yes, I didn't even hear I Will Always Love You, thanks Whitney). For me, all these 25 songs were just like one big song, I found them quite similar. But I think it's good, because Dolly's voice is so soft, so melodic... That was definitely a pleasure to listen to her.

Comments:

@Lois Griffin ~ “This song is adorable. It may not be as meaningful as some of the other songs on this list, but I don't think it ever intended to be. It features such vividly cute lyrics.”

Chart Information:

Australia: #55

US Hot Country Songs: #1 (17 Weeks on the Chart)

US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles: #5

US Adult Contemporary: #38 (5 Weeks on Chart)

Canadian RPM Country Tracks: #2

Other Nominations (N) and Wins (W) Associated With the Love Is Like A Butterfly Era:

BMI Country Award for Love is Like a Butterfly (1975) (W)

Nashville Songwriters Association “Songwriter Achievement Award” for Love is Like a Butterfly (1975) (W)

Song Information

Peaking at #1, “Love is Like A Butterfly was her third consecutive #1 after Jolene and IWALY. Interestingly, this was considered Parton’s signature song during the period and was utilized for the theme song to her 1976/1977 variety show “Dolly!”. The album “Love is Like A Butterfly” also peaked at #7 on the US Country Charts, spending 23 weeks on this chart. Despite the commercial success, the song has been missing from the set lists of a lot of Parton’s recent tours. It has nonetheless remained a favorite for many fans.

It was going well and then most of my faves left just before top 10 :air:

But the others made it to the top 3 so it's great !

Thank you @rumours, sorry for not being here for the ceremony, I also didn't have the time to leave comments on the song this time

Your 11 song deserved to be in the top five, imo.  I gave it a 10.

Joni Mitchell’s album Blue, while written about issues back in that day, still rings true today.  I would like to share a very rare recording of a song by another artist from 1964 that is still relatable.

"Thirsty Boots" is a Civil Rights era folksong by American singer-songwriter Eric Andersen that first appeared on his 1966 album 'Bout Changes 'n' Things. According to the album's liner notes, the song "was written to a civil rights worker-friend. Having never gone down to Mississippi myself, I wrote the song about coming back."  The song is believed to be written for and about his friend and fellow folk singer Phil Ochs, who volunteered for civil rights in Mississippi in 1964.  Civil rights workers and protesters were scorned and jailed, hence the terms “dirty words” and “muddy cells” in the lyrics.

Some comments people wrote about the song:

“For those of us who went down to Selma and weren't sure if it made a difference, this song was the reassurance that we did. Thank you, Eric.”

“Some songs, written for their own time, become songs for all time, and this is one.”

“turbulent times and the music, fearless, led the way”

Lyrics:

You've long been on the open road
You been sleepin' in the rain
From dirty words and muddy cells
Your clothes are soiled and stained
But the dirty words and the muddy cells
Will soon be judged the same
So only stop to rest yourself ‘till you go off again

[Chorus]
So take off your thirsty boots
And stay for awhile
Your feet are hot and weary
From a dusty mile
Maybe I can make you laugh
Maybe I can try
I'm  lookin' for the evenin'
And the mornin' in your eyes

[Verse 2]
Tell me of the ones you saw
As far as you could see
Across the plains from field to town
A-marchin' to be free
And of the rusted prison gates that tumble by degree
Like laughing children one by one
They look like you and me

[Chorus]
So take off your thirsty boots
And stay for a while
Your feet are hot and weary
From a dusty mile
Maybe I can make you laugh
Maybe I can try
I'm lookin' for the evenin'
and the mornin' in your eyes

[Verse 3]
I know you are no stranger down
The crooked rainbow trail
From dancing cliff-edge shattered sills
Of slandered shackled jails
Where the voices drift up from below
As the walls are bein' scaled
Yes, all of this and more my friend
Your song shall not be failed

[Chorus]
So take off your thirsty boots
And stay for a while
Your feet are hot and weary
From a dusty mile
Maybe I can make you laugh
Maybe I can try
I'm  lookin for the evenin'
And the mornin' in your eyes

I believe this link is the only place this recording resides on the internet, and it is not on DVD.   I posted it on youtube today to share with you because of the mention in this thread that Joni Mitchell's music is still relatable after all these years.  It is "unlisted" so it cannot be found in searches.  It can be watched at 1080p.  Enjoy!
