If it's generic then in french we call it variété (la variet') for variety. It's an approach that consist in doing what is already the trend, because a lot of french pop music basically were American covers in french/// I also call it ''commercial music" but it sounds very judgmental. To me pop music (and pop art in general) must be on time, but also you can't be precisely in your time and just doing what has been done for the pas three years sonically.
