It's not an anime.  I don't like anime, don't watch anime, have never seen anime.  It is safely not anime, at all.  I never knew until later there was another version that was anime related.  It's just a movie.

Computer, it's a fine movie. On it's own. 

But it is an adaptation. It will be compared to the original work. 

And compared to the original work... Yeah. It sucks. It sucks so much. All the characters lose their complexities. Misa and Light essentially switch places but also lose everything that made those characters who they were. 

And let's not get started on the Death Note and Ryuk's characterization. 

It's a decent movie but nothing more than decent. It's probably one of the worst adaptations ever though. Like right up there with the Dragonball Z movie.

IMHO, the movie is AWFUL.

 I read both the manga and the anime. I think this is more a book vs movie debate since I always prefer books more than the show/ live action adaptation.

Well I don't mean to come across that way.  I think it's fine to have an opinion.  I mean we aren't all movie makers but we can still discern what we enjoy according to our taste.  I could dial down my reactions.

Netflix's adaptation of Bleach was even worse tbh
