First off, you need more than one hit single to be an icon. Dua's still a one album wonder at this stage and she's certainly not done anything iconic from a gay icon standpoint. If she has, that would make any one hit wonder female a gay icon. And next, Bond themes are meant to be slow and majestic. Nobody wants a disco Bond song. Not even in the 70's did a disco Bond theme get made. Its traditional take ensures that Bond themes remain an iconic brand. It's funny that Sam says the last few have been slow and sad when his Oscar-winning theme was one of the slowest and saddest ever. Maybe it would have been different if it had been written today, what with Sam going much more openly flamboyant?
