I will say that the ending was unsatisfying, because it just set everything up for the sequel, "Machete Kills Again...in Space", which still hasn't materialized. But, more to the point, it's just the structure of the second movie -- nothing is properly resolved, and everything sets up the next part. It's way more than just a fake trailer, in this case.
