Substitute teacher goes on gay rant

Substitute teacher is fired after she tells a classroom of fifth graders that 'homosexuality is a sin' after a boy, 11, said he is thankful that he will be adopted by Dancing With The Stars pro and his husband.

A substitute teacher has been fired after she told an 11-year-old boy that he shouldn't be thankful for his adoptive dads because homosexuality is a 'sin'.

The teacher, who has not been named, allegedly went on a homophobic rant for ten minutes in front of a classroom of fifth graders at Deerfield Elementary School in Utah while the students were sharing what they were thankful for ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

When it was his turn to speak, a boy named Daniel told the class: 'I'm thankful that I'm finally going to be adopted by my two dads.'

'Why on earth would you be happy about that?' the substitute replied aggressively, according to fellow students.

She proceeded to spend the next 10 minutes lecturing the class about how 'homosexuality is wrong' and 'two men living together is a sin'.

Three girls in the class said they tried to stop the teacher multiple times, but she continued with her hurtful remarks.

Eventually the girls left the room to find the principal, Caroline Knadler, who escorted the substitute out of the school.

Daniel's soon-to-be adoptive parents, Louis and Josh van Amstel, praised Knadler for her reaction and expressed horror at the substitute's hurtful remarks.

Louis, a champion ballroom dancer and longtime performer on Dancing With The Stars, posted about the incident on his Facebook page.

He said Daniel stayed quiet during the teacher's rant and didn't want to talk to school officials about it afterward.

'He was so fearful that this could make us think that we don't want to adopt him,' Louis told the Salt Lake Tribune.

'That's definitely not going to happen. But this situation really hurt him. This person really hurt us.'

Love those girls that tried to stop the substitute teacher. They fley out of class straight to the teachers office to let her know what was going on.

Imagine having less grace and dignity than a 5th grader and being allowed to teach.

Love how today the children are the ones acting against this type of bull****. Times really are changing.

This reminded me of Divina De Campo’s (from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK) experience as a teacher. A boy screamed a homophobic slur at him and the class was completely outraged by this and confronted the kid.
