Slowking's shell makes it similar to hermit crabs, though it is physically similar to giant otters, giant salamanders, and hippopotamuses. Its shell "crown" may also be a reference to the mythical sazae-oni, a magical sea demon of Japanese folklore distinguished by its spiny "sazae" or "turban shaped" snail shell. It is also based on a king, as the growth around its neck is based on a king's ruff while its shell is similar to a crown.

In the TCG, Slowking's Southern Islands card is the only card depicting a Pokémon introduced after Generation I to have a square evolution box, in Japan only. In English, the Southern Islands collection used the Neo-era designs, which, like all later card layouts, feature a circular evolution box.

Slowking shares its category name with Pyroar. They are both known as the Royal Pokémon.

Houndour may have been based on the Cerberus of Greek and Roman mythology, or other legends of hellhounds. Houndour is also similar in appearance to Dobermanns and Rottweilers.

Despite being a Generation II Pokémon, it was actually native to Kanto in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. The same is true for Murkrow and Slugma. All three can be obtained in Johto via the Safari Zonein Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

The only three games so far in which Houndour can be captured by the player before viewing the end credits are Pokémon XD, Pokémon Platinum, and Pokémon X.

Houndour is one of fourteen Pokémon that one can collect foreign Pokédex entries for in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.

Facts about Quagsire:

Quagsire is based on a giant salamander. 

 

Its name probably originated from the word quagmire (a swampy area). It could also come from sire (a term used to refer to a royal) or it could come from Siren (a species of salamander). Quagsire is the only Pokémon that begins with a Q that dos not reference Quills (the spined hairs of a Porcupine).

A Quagsire appears as one of the main non playable characters in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity. 

Quagsire has similar name to Quagmire, a character from the TV show, Family Guy, which debuted in 1999, also in which the game Pokemon Gold and Silver was released, and that's also when the Quagsire made its debut. 

Quagsire's shiny back in Generation II was a grayish color with purple markings. Today, its full shiny is a bright purple color. 

Until Generation IV, Quagsire did not learn any damaging Water type moves naturally. In Generation IV and all subsequent generations, it is able to learn Muddy Water.

Facts about Furret:

Furret is likely based on a ferret. 

Furret has a "mask", similar to most ferrets, in Pokémon Gold and Silver but no longer appear with it in later games. 

Furrets have a similar appearance to the Hoenn region's Linoone, and are also the evolved form of one of the first seen Normal-Type Pokémon, just as Linoone is. 

Furret has little appearance in the anime, except for once in the Silver Conference, once in the Hoenn League, and a short appearance in the Sinnoh Saga where it was seen on a stretcher being carted off into surgery.
