People aren’t denying that more diversity is good, but rather that to have this debate over this ad is stupid, when there are much greater issues of representation and lack of diversity out there.

And you're saying this forum discusses those? :rip: If half of the forum can't even say plus size models would be nice in a beauty ad why do you think they'd be interested in championing diversity on an actually important scale :emma: Equality is not more or less important on different scales. It should be important everywhere.

It is tho. A lack of equality in a make up ad will probably make a few people mad or upset, but that’s it. A lack of equal representation in government can mean that entire communities are not represented and therefore are robbed of a voice, which can have life altering effects.

Considering these two situations as the same trivialises what is a very serious issue. Yes more representation in the beauty would be great, but there’s far greater issues around representation that need to be urgently addressed.

We’ve seen how those in power, the right, love to trivialise and mock progressive issues, and kicking up a fuss only gives them more fuel.

I couldn't agree more. But this forum is not addressing them :oprah: This is a pop forum. There's only a marginal interest in politics. So it's on a pop music level that diversity will have its biggest platform. So that's why these threads are in fact important within this specific community.

No one was doing that. The OP is not compaining or trying to stir ****. It's just a thought that deserves discussion because of Gaga's specific pro-diversity branding :air: If we can't even post that around here anymore then what the **** are we doing?

Why not call out the fact that US government, something that affects everyone in the United States, is severely lagging behind in diversity? Why not put time and energy into that instead of some make up ad? It literally doesn’t matter how diverse a Haus Labs ad is, it really doesn’t.

Yes we know that there are larger issues of representation, obviously. But we're here because we are fans of Gaga, so that's why I posed the questions initially. I think it's important and to talk about micro as well as macro aggressions.  So there's nothing stupid about initiating a dialogue about a potential missed opportunity (one that relates innately to the culture that Gaga has pushed for, even in seemingly simple commercial efforts).  On that same note, why are we on here at all, if there are more substantial things to talk about? lol

Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

People can very well want to see diversity "on an actually important scale" yet see public regrets over a very inclusive ad for not being more inclusive  as looking for a flaw... It's not adversarial at all.

You can keep it important without always nitpicking about representation to the point the ones who really care way more for it more than pretty much all of their peers are still not caring enough in your book. Again it's not adversarial.

People thought it was looking for a flaw, not that minorities shouldn't be represented in medias.

Saying it's too bad is low key complaining about it tho.

Anyway it was already told and explained again and again by many in thread so  see things how you want to lol.  Ciao! :)

Then why feature their bodies at all :madge:

I mean shots which point out at showing diversity. In her commercial all models of different ethnic backgrounds are shown not clustered rather evenly spread across the video. I guess it means to underline the value of diversity that well is mostly seen from faces. If they aimed at showing different body shapes shots would be more focused on bodies but they weren't to focus on faces.
