Saying “I worked hard and was bullied just like legend XYZ” is veryyy different from 

“There’s not a difference between me and legend XYZ.” and then added the justification for that bold comparison like an afterthought. That doesn’t qualify m’am.

Also this is an attractive white boy singing accoustic love songs on his guitar. He is the antithesis of controversy, a non-target for public bully.

Now I don't know Shawn Mendes' schedule and work ethic but to compare yourself to 

Madonna, Cristiano Ronaldo & Lebron James is pretty powerful.

I don't know much about Madge's story but Ronaldo's work ethic is not even humanly possible, this man is in his 30s and has more power in his two legs than a twenty something (it's been proven). He is very strict about his diet and trains everyday nonstop until late at night, when his team goes to sleep he's out there playing football again. It makes sense he won so many awards. I highly doubt Shawn Mendes works on his craft with that much precision and determination. I think it's fair to say Michael Jackson had the same determination and work ethic as Ronaldo for sure

She went through rape, burglaries, friends dying from aids, being attacked at knife point and more... you had a soft life and I’ll say it because by saying this stupid statement, you are undermining the hardship and struggles Madonna went through.

I think it's best to steer clear of any kind of name dropping when it comes to this kinda thing. Only trotting out the biggest names makes you sound full of yourself and you are putting yourself on the level of those people when you do that. You're trying to get thought of as famous by association. I wouldn't do any name dropping at all, just say you were bullied and now you're living your dream and where are these bullies now and suchlike. Name dropping famous people who were bullied is what other people say to you to make you feel better, you don't adopt them for yourself.

Exactly what I was thinking. Not to say people like this can't be bullied but when they say it in this capacity to gain sympathy, it's just like they're asking: "Can you believe someone as perfect as me was hated on?" They've got it all going for them now, so claims of past bullying don't really hit hard.
