Beyonce sells albums insanely well—so does Gaga, Adele (especially Adele), etc. Not every singer is a single machine, and that's fine. And didn't she have a #1 with Ed Sheeran a few years ago? However, I can sort of agree that sometimes Bey's impact gets overstated a bit in the media—she's insanely talented and as a cultural force she's ahead of other celebrities. But she's often depicted as the biggest/best selling singer when in fact Rih sells singles more than everybody else and Adele and Taylor sell the most albums. And in terms of the non US market, Rihanna is way ahead of her as is Gaga and Adele. That said, it's not a competition and there's plenty of room for Ariana, Gaga, Taylor, Bey, Adele, Rihanna, etc. It's the media that really creates the idea that everything is a competition (especially for women) and there can only be one "Queen" and stans feed in to it. People get so heated about it (and to be fair, I get the heat because there is a lot of gross racism and misogyny slung that way) that even innocuous comparisons or putting someone in the same category of Bey gets a singer dragged—which is why I always think it's better for Gaga fan accounts to basically solely compliment Bey or keep her name out of their mouth. It's hard enough for women to get ahead in this industry then to always pit them against each other . . . Gaga and Beyonce can BOTH be successful!
