Is really no one coming forward to point out that that journalist is extremely uninformed?? The „why you mad when you can be glaad“ line is obviously a reference to that vine. It‘s convienent that glaad is also a non-profit or whatever. But that line is an obvious reference to modern „pop culture“ ffs

Pretty moot and over the top extra article considering she's put her money where her mouth is by actually advocating on behalf of the LGBTQ community like sending letters to her Congress member to support the Equality Act and donating to GLAAD. Also, after this song's release GLAAD has received an influx of donations today and apparently many of them were in amounts of $13 

Sounds like the author should have done their homework. This just comes off as cringey and try-hard. It's a fun, catchy, feel-good song with a cute message. And that's all it was supposed to be. Not an anthem for equality like Gaga explicitly made hers to be.

It's not even the same meaning. Born this way is an empowerment anthem. YNTCD is a kind song against homophobia. I like it because she's just responding to agressions. she's not being shady, she's being respectful and giving good arguments about why to be homophobic is not ok.

I feel like Taylor had good intentions but she executed the message in a less mature way.

Instead of celebrating pride, her lyrics actually took shots at her detractors, which is something she seems to be struggling to NOT do. She needs to understand that her songs would be perfectly fine, or even better, if she doesn't constantly talk about how she doesn't care about her haters.

If only she could just ignore the haters, then people wouldn't comment on this vengeful attitude she's been developing for herself, then her music would actually speak for itself, lyrically.

It's not even close to being an attempt to be another Born This Way. Born This Way was a self-love anthem for LGTBQ+ people in a period of change (yes, it was only a few years ago, but I truly the feel the political climate in most western countries is very different now).

YNTCD is Taylor just telling homophobes to chill the **** out. And honestly, that's kind of the message we need right now lol. Yeah, it's mildly political, but I don't for a second believe it's disingenuous, I think it's truly Taylor's thoughts on the current state of America put into song. And I think most of us would agree with the core message if we analysed it through a non-stan lens.

The song is pandering, I don't care what anyone else says.

For starters it's not that deep. Pride is hella commercialised nowadays for corparations to make a quick buck. I just wish people weren't so easily bought by the facade of the bs. 

Like people have said before, her heart is in the right place but lord is it tone deaf and just cringey.

The worst thing is, generally, I feel like LGBT culture is being exploited. It happened and still happens with black culture and it's happening now with this. It's unfortunate.

Every pop star panders to the LGBT, it's clever marketing. You can tell when it's genuine like with Gaga or fake like Nicki, even though I still like her music.

Heck, celebrities nowadays are practically hounded into giving a half-hearted comment of support otherwise they will be deemed as being against us.

I don't even blame her, sadly attempts like this are the result of people demanding allyship from everyone and it comes out forced. I have no doubt she means well.

But we aren't a hive mind that needs to assimilate everyone to some one-note over-produced online-mainstream gay culture.

I remember Michael Musto writing a dismissive review of Born This Way, saying a gay anthem should be adopted by the community, not written for it. Gaga got **** for Born This Way, even from the gay community. People called Born This Way cringe worthy.

Taylor's music isn't for me, and even if her intentions were self-serving, having a queer positive song playing from mini-vans on the way to school is pretty great. Props to her, IMO.
