Neither is 1984 by Orwell. Lord of the Flies, Of Mice And Men are a few other excluded books that come to mind. Le Père Goriot by Balzac - I'm not a fan of Balzac but it's fine. Odyssey by Homer - Read it in middle school, not a fan of ancient books like this. Tales by Edgar Allan Poe - I like the atmosphere but I don't like his writing that much. Gargantua by Rabelais - Read it in high school, didn't like it but it's still interesting and I get why we studied it, there are some good things in there but the whole thing is a bit boring. The Red and the Black by Stendhal - I love it ! And the author comes from my hometown ! War and Peace by Tolstoy - I love Tolstoy, this is one of my favorite books. Anna Karenina by Tolstoy - One of my favorite books too, it surpasses War and Peace for me. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Twain - I liked it, it was nice but did it deserve to be in that list when you see other books that are not included ? Read partly, seen adaptations etc : The Divine Comedy by Dante (read some of it in class) One Thousand and One Nights obviously Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë (movie) The Stranger by Camus (comics) Madame Bovary by Flaubert (comics) Moby-**** (movie) Lolita (movie) Aeneid by Virgil (read half of it because it was mandatory but I didn't like it enough to continue) In Search of Lost Time (one of the characters has my name so I tried to read it, but as much as I love reading, even classics, I can't cope with the 21-lines-long sentences !) Andrei Nikolaidis (greek-montenegrin) book Hungarian sentence is the one that I warmly recommend, it deals with an open question of Eastern Europe, our future and far right movement by breaking the rules of sintax and classic form of a novel.
