Always Remember Us This Way, the hit that got away :messga:

Diggin' My Grave shouldn't be cut from the movie. It's one of the best songs.

There are so many things that should've stayed in, and a couple of things they could've taken out.  The whole montage leading up to ARUTW (starting with Diggin' My Grave and ending with Midnight Special) captured the moments when they worked/sang together and showed SO. MUCH. CHEMISTRY.  The theatrical version could've really used that addition as a lead-up to Ally's own break-out moment via ARWTW and also to prepare the audience for the prolonged denouement, i.e., the second half of the movie.  Jack's subsequent deterioration would've been even more heartbreaking and effective if they had let the relationship/partnership play out a bit more through these moments (let's not forget about the zipline scene and the candid chair hit on Jack's head!).  The meet-cute, parking lot scene and Shallow all happened within 24 hours and the cut scenes would've visually cued the audience through more time that had passed.

Shallow was the moment when the stars aligned, but Is That Alright marked the pinnacle of their relationship and that was brutally cut.

Two scenes I could've really done without: the extended exchange between Jack and Marlon Williams and the rehab counselor singing.  I don't really understand why those scenes were added to encore at all.

The editing of this wasn't the best, but it's still my favorite film ever though.  Gaga and Bradley complemented each other so well that I think this onscreen pairing ought to be remembered decades from now.

Thank you! It's so good to hear the songs in different ways and see the progression of each one. Fascinating!

Now I wanna watch the film again. :bradley:

I agree, wholeheartedly. I think the overall additional narrative pieces in Encore really helped flesh the film so much more, but this interaction was so awkward and awkwardly too long.

3 points in and ready for more
