If someone is complaining about these shoes being 'blackface' than why not complain about them being 'whiteface' too? Honestly. They are the IDENTICAL shoes, one black and one white/gold. Why are people only getting offended over the black one? Honestly. I feel like people are just trying hard to make so much drama and fake controversy. Unless I'm ofc missing something. The history of "whiteface" is not the same as the history of "blackface" which has been used to dehumanise, ridicule and help spread racist ideology (which in turn helped prop up deeply racist laws such as slavery and segregation) since around the 1830's. A simplified version of this to illustrate this point is the difference between the Hindu swastika and the nazi swastika. They obviously resemble each other however they have a very different history. It's not the perfect example, however like the "white face" shoe and the "black face" shoe it is a good example of why although they look very similar they are very different. Spoiler We would regard the Hindu symbol as acceptable as it is part of a diverse range of religious traditions while regarding the nazi symbol as offensive due to the associations with extreme violence and anti-semitism. We regard the white shoe as acceptable since white face doesn't have a history of discrimination and racism behind it while black face is regarded as intrinsically racist based upon a traceable racial link to slavery and racial segregation and so any imagery that seems to reference or resemble black face faces criticism. Here I am talking to someone who is offended by people getting offended over a poor design choice with resemblance to racist caricatures.
