StrawberryBlond 13,285
Pop is a genre where frequent releases are expected and it's rare to see artists take big breaks. But some names who have taken a hiatus would really surprise you. Here's the list of the biggest popstars over the years and how long they kept us waiting, in chronological order. Note that this only includes solo studio albums. The artist/band must also need at least 3 studio albums to qualify. ABBA - 1 year, 4 months (ABBA: The Album - Voulez-Vous) *up to and including their original break-up Little Mix - 2 years (*tied* Salute - Get Weird and Glory Days - LM5) *the exact same length of time between each! Ariana Grande - 2 years, 3 months (Dangerous Woman - Sweetener) Ed Sheeran - 2 years, 9 months (+ - x) NSYNC - 2 years, 10 months (N' SYNC - No Strings Attached) *their original 1998 Christmas album was viewed as more of a compilation Lady Gaga - 2 years, 11 months (ARTPOP - Joanne) Spice Girls - 3 years (Spiceworld - Forever) *up to and including their original break-up Taylor Swift - 3 years, 1 month (1989 - Reputation) Rihanna - 3 years, 2 months (Unapologetic - Anti) *will outdo this next month Beyonce - 3 years, 3 months (Dangerously In Love - B'Day) One Direction - 3 years, 3 months (Made In The A.M. - ???) *on a haitus, left wondering if they'll come back Miley Cyrus - 3 years, 4 months (Can't Be Tamed - Bangerz) Justin Bieber - 3 years, 5 months (Believe - Purpose) *coming really close to outdoing it with his current break Katy Perry - 3 years, 8 months (Teenage Dream - Prism) Britney Spears - 3 years, 11 months (In The Zone - Blackout) Bruno Mars - 3 years, 11 months (Unorthodox Jukebox - 24k Magic) Shakira - 3 years, 11 months (Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 - She Wolf) Madonna - 3 years, 11 months (Rebel Heart - ???) *due to be 4 years next month Kylie Minogue - 4 years, 1 month (Kiss Me Once - Golden) Prince - 4 years, 2 months (20Ten - Plectrumelectrum) Mariah Carey - 4 years, 8 months (Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel - Me. I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse) *her Christmas album in the middle was almost all covers Jennifer Lopez - 4 years, 8 months (AKA - ???) Adele - 4 years, 10 months (21 - 25) Kesha - 4 years, 11 months (Warrior - Rainbow) Maroon 5 - 4 years, 11 months (Songs About Jane - It Won't Be Soon Before Long) Pink - 5 years, 1 month (The Truth About Love - Beautiful Trauma) Avril Lavigne - 5 years, 3 months (Avril Lavigne - Head Above Water) Backstreet Boys - 5 years, 6 months (In A World Like This - DNA) Christina Aguilera - 5 years, 7 months (Lotus - Liberation) Michael Jackson - 6 years, 4 months (HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I - Invincible) Justin Timberlake - 6 years, 6 months (Futuresex/Lovesounds - The 20/20 Experience) Janet Jackson - 7 years, 8 months (Discipline - Unbreakable) Whitney Houston - 8 years (I'm Your Baby Tonight - My Love Is Your Love) Cher - 11 years, 10 months (Living Proof - Closer To The Truth) Shania Twain - 14 years, 10 months (Up! - Now) I can't quite work out the exact difference in time with those who hold the exact same time, but it's about right. Are you surprised at any of these? Did you not know some of these breaks were that long? And do you think I missed any out that were longer? Share your views and I hope you like this nostalgia! And realise that maybe your faves aren't as bad with release schedules as you initially thought! PLUS - tomorrow, I'll try to do the exact same list...but the shortest time between pop albums! StrawberryBlond 13,285
Just edited in One Direction's time to be later since I should have counted it from their 2015 hiatus. Sorry for inaccuracy! 16 hours ago, MaryJaneHolland said: Grace Jones 1989 - 2008 or smth Would you call her pop, though? I don't think I'd consider her as such?
