That she knew about the Carl Bean song before she came up with the line "born this way" is contradicted by what she said elsewhere. But she had to cover herself as this was the compare-Gaga-with-everything-and-call-her-reductive era. The Carl Bean connection was not made til it was placed on gagafrontrow as one of several songs with the title.

I THIUGHT THE SAME THING. It completely destroys her story "I wrote this song in the shower while thinking of Whitney Houston" lmao. She always tells weird stories like these. "I wrote million reasons while riding my horse" is my favorite one.

Correct, Tim. It's obvious she didn't know about the Bean song and that she independently came up with the line, but she felt compelled to say she knew just to cover herself. Kinda sad.

Interesting! I was thinking she heard the Bean song and decided to write her own. I've never believed the Whitney Houston story.

From what I remember, the Whitney Houston thing related more to the style of how she sang the song, not its title. But that too was prolly not true, just meant to divert from the negative comparisons that were made. Anyway, the song has stood the test of time and she has never given up on it.
