Todd Phillips, director of the upcoming, as-yet-untitled Joker origin film, has revealed a first look at star Joaquin Phoenix, before he becomes the infamous Batman villain.

Phillips captioned the image with just “Arthur,” evidently this iteration of the Joker’s name before he took on his mononym.

Warner Bros. has stressed that the Phoenix Joker pic will have no effect on its DC Universe, in which Jared Leto plays the Joker, most recently in “Suicide Squad.” Warner Bros. is also developing a standalone Joker film that will operate within the DC Universe and star Leto.

The Phoenix movie is scheduled to hit theaters Oct. 4, 2019.

I hope it is good :diane:

I am 100% sure Joaquin can do it, what make me doubtful is actually Todd Phillips :triggered:

From what I know, he never direct a professional movie before.

He had one documentary on GG Alin iirc, it was his Uni project.

Maybe there's more to him.

Introducing, ladies and gentlemen, the one and only, the legend, the myth, Joachim Phoenix !  :vegas:

I am lowkey curious with this Joker film. Esp. Since it is not part of DCEU

Didn't Todd Phillips direct the Hangover Movies?

I wish they would venture off into new territory. I really hate superhero/villain movies and I get the appeal (and how much money they make) but I continue to be disappointed whenever I take a chance with one.

They need a more Dark Knight route where they put these movies into melodrama settings or something to make them interesting again.

Wonder Woman was the last one I enjoyed - but if it wasn’t because of it’s historic moment (the fact it was a huge success with the lead role being a female superhero), it would have been just another glossy over-the-top spectacle.

I just want more depth :messga:

Todd did the Hangover movies and is a producer on the Star is Born.

This Joker movie will be set in DC’s Elseworld and the Joker is a failed comedian in it set in the ‘80s.

Frances Conroy (and Rober De Niro) also stars in it. :legend:

Well, we don't know a whole lot about what the plot of this movie. It's also a standalone film, which means that the repercussions from the DCEU ("repercussions" coming from the canon of the movie, not as in how the movies are perceived) won't really affect this movie.
