Ok can we just appreciate the talent this Betch has, they stole her style but not her pipes , Mariah will always be my top female writer and vocalizer :vegas: your favs and the birds are shaking  💅🏼

Glitter (the soundtrack) was so underrated do to the fact that the sound Mariah wanted for the album was stolen by Tommy, who was running the record company and was divorcing Mariah at the time, then he turned around and made Jennifer Lopez record the songs from those demos with the same slightly different sounds but completely different lyrics hence the reason why Mariah had to change the melody for “Loverboy” since JLo had already realized “I’m Real”. The entertainment world can be really unfair for women sometimes... I still own every Mariah record up to MIMMTEC

I never listen to it so loverboy is always enjoyed very much. The 80s bass is everything

And some parts of the melody are really catchy. I love the hook.

I am a little sceptical about the reasons Glitter failed to succeed as an album. The girl was a wreck. Her oversexual image was quite polarising back in the day. Let's not forget that society was different and songbird went from this us93-4.jpg

to this

in less than 6 years. GP thought she commercialised her body leaving her voice in the background. Plus the album had a strong 80s vibe in it which in 2001 was what the world did NOT want to hear. Maybe it was ahead of its time a bit.

Are you joking? The GP wasn’t here for it?

Don’t forget that this era happed during the 911 attacks, people weren’t really here to celebrate plus the same image was adopted by Jennifer, the same album was released by Jennifer which became one of her top albums, you clearly have no clue about the power Tommy Mottola had over Mariah, he sabotage her until she left the label. You are underestimating Mariah over what? Sexuality? Every album she’s released has been her ideas and creative input!

Jesus... What's wrong with this site? Everytime someone tries to solidate his opinion someone bashes him like he offended a mother! Calm yo tits! I've been following Mariah ever since her debut. I have lived to see this era. GP were alienated by the image of hers back in the day and scrutinized her a lot. Of course it was unfair towards her! I didn't agree with that. The 9.11 incident was after her messy appearance on TRL (July). The girl was weird and this added fuel to the fire. Later on she waa hospitalized.

Mottola's sabotage began in 1997. Not in 2001. He refused to promote Butterfly's singles and during her Rainbow era he started promoting heavily JLo. The result was the latter receiving substantial airplay over Mariah unfortunately.

Don't compare JLo to Mimi over public image. Mariah was introduced like the cute Cinderella girl in 1990 and much of her success in her early years was attributed to this image. JLo was a nothing in 1999. She started as a sexy Latina (music in 1999 favored latin pop) and served that look. For some.artists sexy=+ for some others is a -. E.g. imagine if Celine Dion came in 2000 wearing her bra and a bikini touching herself over a sports car. Would it be well received?

What are you talking about? When did I say he started sabotaging her on 2001? Mottola wasn’t even involved on Glitter, she had total control of that project, she was so afraid for him to even get close to the studio while she was recording. Why would he even try to promote her :ladyhaha:

I said he sabotaged glitter by stealing the soundtrack when Mariah turned it to the label for release, if you were a fan like you claim you would know, then he made Jennifer record songs around the same sound. He stopped sabotaging her when he married his now wife Thalia. So yes. I’ll compare all I want. After all “I’m not offending a mother” like you said

This is a big generalisation. It's not like she went from her virginal Vision of Love outfits to suddenly touching herself on top of a car and marketing her sexuality. It was a gradual process, starting with the styling of the Butterfly era and eventually leading to the open sexuality exhibited in the Loverboy video. The media GP were definitely here for her development of sexuality; Honey, which is a song literally about cum, did rather well on the charts, they embraced this new Mariah.

I agree with the 80s side of it, though. It was far too early for an 80s throwback, had it been released later in the decade then responses may have received the album better. That being said, it's a fantastic album either way!
