Ms I am a local

So, it is basically a Mo Bounce The Re-Up, Neon Version, Better Aesthetics (DLC) & Better song... :duck:

I expected a little more Iggy but it is still a very good music video! :legend:

The song's growing on me. I thought it was a bit underpar at first but now it's getting to be quite catchy. The music video is the oversexualised stuff I expected. So, because I expected it, I guess I'm not quite as outraged as I'd normally be. It's just your standard rap imagery, so why should I be shocked at this point? A lot like Mo Bounce, though mercifully without the little kids involved this time (I hate it when artists put children into videos whose entire subject matter and environment clearly isn't suitable not to mention when you consider who's watching the video and what they're doing in the process). Ass implants or not, she looks amazingly hot. The set has that wonderfully sleazy feel that's such a guilty pleasure. I feel bad for liking it a bit even though it goes against my usual feminist principles. I just wish she didn't have to put her sexuality on a plate to stand a chance at making it. It's like "Savior wasn't a hit, so now I'm going to have get my ass out and spread my legs." Such a sad decision for so many women in the industry to make.

Maybe shouldn't have watched this right after the Bed video..... :awkney:

For Christ's sake, we're in 2018, aren't there any other subject for female rappers to talk about than money, tits and ass?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a nun and I love to get down and dirty to a good raunchy song once in a while, but thank God I have enough hindsight to realize this is not how life works. I'm thinking about all the young people that listen and watch this **** all day long and grow up with those stereotypes literally surrounding them non stop. Now go explain to young boys that girls shouldn't be treated like brainless walking pussies.

It's cool when those things are not so serious, tongue-in-cheek and empowering for girls - but is it really what's going on there?

Glad she’s over and can’t recover her career. Looks like a sad attempt. :madge:

There are of course, plenty of other subjects to rap about. You do get "conscious rappers," as they say. But that style isn't for everyone. Not everyone has an opinion on politics or even if they do, can't actually put it down in a song. Or are afraid to get criticised for being polarizing or not knowing what they're talking about if they do. But yeah, I wish it was possible to have a bit of sexual fun without worrying about the reverberations it's going to cause in society. It's all too easy to fall into the trap of "I can distinguish between fantasy and reality, therefore, everyone can." The truth is that when you don't provide much of an alternative in music, young people, boys especially, grow up thinking this is just the way it is. I had raunchy imagery in my youth as well but it was mostly limited to Xtina. Now it's like everyone's doing it and raunchy videos are the new normal. It's no wonder that well over a quarter of girls claimed that they have endured unwanted touching in school and well over 60% have experienced derogatory name calling. I really think we need specialised teaching in schools to cover areas of respect and one's own dignity and safety because the media is the most toxic its ever been and as long as videos like this make money, they're going to be made, so we need something to counteract what kids are seeing. It's also good that you call out the idea of "is this really empowering?" Too often, girls and women are sent the message that to be overtly sexual is empowering when in reality, it might bring all the boys to the yard but it won't make them respect you. The exact opposite. I find that this kinda stuff is best practicised in private. I find it's much more sexy that way anyway. When it's in public, it just looks trashy. If only more women presented themselves in a classy sexual way, it might make more men respect their talent and personalities, with everything else being more of a bonus rather than the main focus.
