Cheryl Cole is returning to The X Factor

Cheryl is set to return as an X Factor judge according to the show’s host Dermot O’Leary.

In an interview with Metro’s Guilty Pleasures, Dermot said Cheryl is coming back to the talent show in 2018.

The Newcastle-born and raised singer has not judged on the ITV staple since 2015. In April 2016, she said she had left the panel to focus on her music career. Since then, she’s had a baby with her partner, Liam Payne, and continues to work as the face of L’Oreal. Last year, Cheryl did reappear on X Factor, in the judges' houses for a cameo stint.

Ok, but really, she hasn't released music since 2014. She left the panel in 2015 so she could focus on her music career, but absolutely no new music has come since then? And now she's coming back.

To be fair, she was working on music but she fell pregnant and now her music plans were pushed to Q2 2018

Her songs are not bad at all, especially the old ones when she debuted as a solo artist. Now I agree she can’t sing and honestly idk what she’s doing judging a singing competition but hey, er’body got to make sum money aight?

Tea! However it’s been a hot minute since she last released a song and the music climate has changed so whether she would see the same success as 2014 is debatable. But I agree, she and Liam are both terrible and tacky.

Not that it matters if she have a new album, Cheryl have always been a local act (UK), so if being back to panel is the only way for her to pay her bills, or the only way for her to kill time while being productive then do it tbh. Not every former girlband members can be a Beyoncé or Victoria

It was fairly obvious that the last season was all about paving the way for her return. Having her on as a judge's houses advisor, inviting her onto the first live show to watch Liam perform and interviewing her afterwards and Simon being unfairly mean to Nicole all series. It was becoming more and more obvious that it was a subtle plan to knock Nicole off the panel and replace her with Cheryl but needed to provide a "reason" to do so. There were rumours that Nicole was furious that Simon didn't let her be the duet partner of her act in the final. Now, on the one hand, that's quite an egotistical thing to just expect to sing with your act every time like she has done in the past, especially when the other acts get a guest to perform with. But on the other hand, when you look through her history and realise that whenever she sang with her act in a final, the act always went on to win, you have to wonder if Simon was afraid that Kevin singing with Nicole would allow him to win and he badly wanted his act to win and also, if Nicole won (for the second year in a row), Simon would have no reason not to ask her back next year. But he'd already decided in advance that he wanted Cheryl to replace her. So, he ensured that Nicole couldn't perform, his act won, Nicole's leaving, Cheryl's coming back, just the way he wanted. What a weasel he is.

Simon really needs to start listening to his audience because if he did, he'd know that the majority of them don't want Cheryl back. Even Sinitta, sour grapes aside, rightfully claimed that even Cheryl coming in as a judge's advisor didn't stop the show losing a million viewers. Ratings have been dropping every year since 2010, no matter who the judges are and when Cheryl briefly came back in 2015, the ratings were not helped. Now factor in that she hasn't released an album since 2014, her last few #1's were achieved in the pre-streaming age, she hasn't toured since her one and only tour in 2012 and the sales of all her album have got worse and worse as time has gone on...she stands no chance of making a career comeback out of this. Liam's career isn't taking off like planned and all she's got now is L'oreal ads, so what else can she do but return to XF? It was such a joke when she came back last year just to watch Liam perform. It was purely to support him and to get promotion for herself because when asked which act was her favourite she couldn't even name one and as soon as Liam finished singing and Dermot waved him away, he cut right in front, walked into the crowd, took Cheryl's hand and they walked out, making a very clear message that they were here for one purpose only, they didn't even intend to watch the rest of the night. Not very becoming of a future judge who's supposed to be mentoring acts they've invested in.
