It's only the SJW's seeing a black child wearing a monkey t shirt and thinking about a correlation, interesting. Perhaps they're the true racists

There are black members here who were offended, are you calling them racist?

God the lot of you are so ignorant of the racial discrimination black people go through on a daily basis,

1. Miss me with the "Different Culture" bullshit. Black people have been referred to and implied as monkeys all over the world.

This isn't some SJW overreaction, so stop trying to twist the narrative, it won't work. Black people are still seen as being sub-human and primitive, implying that they are monkeys is a common way to reaffirm that belief.

2. Whites and Blacks are NOT seen as equal in the majority of the world. Sorry to burst your bubble but were not. Sometimes I think a lot of you guys tackle issues like these as if we are, but we're not. Black people are seen as unintelligent, rude, violent, and primitive. So when your family members call you a monkey, it will carry different weight then if it was said to a black person. White people are notorious for saying slick **** and then acting like the victim when they get called out. Let me remind you, referring, calling, or implying black people are monkeys will always be seen as a racist jab.

3. As @Borislshere said if the mother doesn't find anything wrong with the photo that is her opinion but it does not negate the history of the correlation between black people and monkeys. If a 13-year-old is having sex with a 27-year-old, it doesn't matter if she/he felt they weren't manipulated, the truth is they were.

4. Microaggressions are very real and it takes a toll on the mind and spirit of those affected by it. Just like any forms of bullying it can cause damage to one self-worth.

I don't like bringing up race on GGD because honestly a lot of you really don't get it and that's okay since your not effect by it and can go your entire lives without being affected by it, but please do not try can tell people what they should and shouldn't be offended by, especially with an issue that is still used to dehumanize black people.

This post should be pinned. ^^

Why are some white members constantly repeating they were called monkeys as kids? How is that relevant? How often did they experience racism in their lives?

Of course it would be different, because white people weren’t dehumanized and called animals in the past.

And people shouldn’t lie, this exists outside of America too. White racists are still calling black people - monkeys and apes, in many parts of the world.

I agree that you cant force someone to not feel offended. But also, not everyone has to please you in anyway.

This monkey thing is an overreaction.

I remember in my town they forbid christmas decortation cuz its too popular and it would be offending to people with other religion (minority)  for both are no offendings and appologiez needed.

What is important is context! Context is a basic instrument of judgmental thinking. You cant just make statements if u dont know everything. Then justice/law system would not work. (far away example i know) For me the monkey thing, is same as not letting black people work, cuz someone can releate this to slavery aka another racism problem. (another extreme but it fits to the monkey shirt)

To microagression. I hate them.  On one hand, I understand that people dont want to be assosiated with racism andso on. Especially people who are ashamed of their country having so much trouble with racism. Or effected people that dont want to get harmed (or dont want others to get harmed)

but !- By making thinks big which are not acutally racist it get dangerous. Those microagressions stop the progress of making monkey a silly word for kids and turining them into a racist meaning again. Which ofcourse should not be goal. Another danger of the microagression thinking is that you can make an microagression out of EVERYTHING. It will seperate people even more.

I cant agree on a racism problem here, but everybody has to decide that on their own. I think the lagre majority of GGD also think that people should be able to live equally together. Just because not everybody feels offened, doesnt mean they are unaware of racist. They just feel diffrent about this. (but who am I to say, I never saw someone in RL here)

This isn't about pleasing anyone it's about realizing that there is a connection that many still hold today about black people being like monkeys.

It might seem like an overreaction but it isn't. I will never forget when Beyonce dropped "Grown Woman" and a GGD user referred to the African singing near the end of the song as "gorilla noises."  These associations are not cute nor do I personally believe that any are meant as jokes. It is dehumanizing because of the history.

What town would ban Christmas, if don't mind me asking? Are you sure it was banned and not just accompanied by other holiday traditions?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I understand that this probably didn't seem offensive to people involved in the photoshoot and I can understand how it passed so many people due to cultural differences, however, we live in the age of information, a simple google search can show why this would be interpreted as being racist. However, most people don't know about the Congolese genocide so maybe the people involved in the photoshoot were unaware with the correlation as well.

I agree microaggressions are tricky. I'm sure we both know why, and I can't speak for everyone, but that **** can build up and cause some people to view themselves negatively. And I understand that we can't blow everything up, as it cheapens the experience and impact but it's also bad to felt it fester and go unchecked. At least talking about it will ease someone's pain.

"Those microagressions stop the progress of making monkey a silly word for kids and turining them into a racist meaning again."

Us pointing out that a word, that is still being used to dehumanize black people worldwide, is problematic is not reaffirming the correlation that whites have put between black people and monkeys. It is racists that are still using that word to degrade black people that reaffirm that correlation.

In other words, calling out racism doesn't keep racism thriving, ignoring it certainly does though.

White members in here: YES!!! See? You stupid SJWs!!! I'm white and I've been called monkey, it's a term of endearment.

Black members in here: No it was pretty racist and I was offended.

White members in here: Anyways... let's move onto REAL racism and REAL injustices in the world.

Illuminati

Finally a sane person that was actually there. It was a random sweater, one of many. Can't believe people are boycotting them over something like this.

All the people feeling justified about ignoring the events because the one black mother(I assume) said that this is ok.

I wish people went after "SJW" racists and homophobes back in the 1900s, but it's only practical now apparently.

They probably won't even care about the real issues. They only want their spotlight in telling people what to believe in.

Yeah well this world is full of sensitive crybabies who feel the need to get offended over every little thing and this goes to show that not everyone, even the child’s own mother, views the world from a sensitive SJW point

The pic you posted says that there are studies that show that white millennials are about as racist as white Baby Boomers. None of those links you quoted take us to that study.

I'm not denying that there are some awful people who still call black people monkeys. So stop calling me ignorant when you are the one ignoring facts and trying to see racism behind everything

3 second Google search. How can you possibly criticize another user for not checking for sources when you didn't either? "Stop calling me ignorant just because I'm actively choosing to not look up information available at my finger tips."
