OMG I can't believe we are talking about this again.

Born This Way sold 8 million copies worldwide.

MediaTraffic is a site that doesn't count sales from EVERY country. And as we all know Gaga is popular world wide. They didn't include : Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand + many other countries and thats how they got only 6 million copies.

Can anyone explain wtf the difference is between "sold" and "shipped"?

Sold = how many copies people bought physically + digitally

Shipped = how many copies were sent to retailers such as Target, Best Buy etc.

The Fame + The Fame Monster= 16M WW

BTW= 8M WW

Others (The Remix, BTW Remix, DVD, Very Gaga Holiday, et.al) = 1.5M WW

Overall WW album sales= 25-26M

And besides, whatever the label promotes as her official sales, then that would the media outfits would report to the general public. Don't forget when Interscope finally promoted Gaga as having already sold 100 million records worldwide in just 3-4 years, regardless if it's the actual sales or mere image branding. That bold announcement alone is enough for me. Not to mention, Gaga was officially crowned as Queen of Pop by a reputable source, none less than RollingStone itself. She's way above her contemporaries. She's in a league of her own, and imo, is THE defining pop icon of the 21st century.
