Unicorn Monster 0
When I first listened to the song I thought it's amazing and I still do think that bu tt then I looked at the lyrics and realized that it's prettu depressing. Anyway, I am really surprised that media didn't get used to Gaga and her controversy already...
Galactic Mess 1,393
Wow, they're right... After listening to this song I'm totally gonna suicide! My life is not worth it anymore because Gaga said so!! Bye guys, love you all  Seriously now, they're being WAY too overprotective, besides underestimating today's youth's thinking capability... I mean, my actions are determined by my raising and personal experiences, not what some random popstar sings about... But hey, they gotta write some articles bashing her as soon as they find an excuse to do it - after all, the media misses it's cash cow...

Anyway, I am really surprised that media didn't get used to Gaga and her controversy already... But this isn't Gaga's first song to talk about sad/depressing topics. Speechless (her dad needing heart surgery) The Edge of Glory (her grandfather dying) Brown Eyes (Luc dumping her) Judas (Luc cheating on her) Government Hooker (JFK hitting and quitting Marilyn Monroe) Dance in the Dark (Girls being ashamed of their physical appearance; Marilyn, Judy Garland, Sylvia Plath, etc. dying tragic deaths) Paper Gangsta (Def Jam dropping her) Alejandro (her moving on from a relationship, DADT in the vid) Paparazzi (many tragic deaths in the vid, dying on stage at the VMAs) Fashion of His Love (Alexander McQueen's suicide) Marry the Night (Very sad vid, :notsure: Not sure if abortion, miscarriage, suicide attempt, or overdose in the vid) So Happy I Could Die (Her past addiction to d--gs/alcohol) Moral to the story: This isn't anything new. Nissa 51
I see it as a song discussing how the media always wants to see the worst in celebrities (Princess Die, we want to see her cry), and how the media chase celebrities to their death. (Literally, in Diana's case). Gaga is just expressing her deepest feelings as an artist and saying that she fears dying tragically like Princess Di, Marilyn Monroe etc. You can still be born this way while feeling sad or hopeless sometimes. We're all human, we all have our ups and downs. They make the song look like a suicide song, but it ISN'T. For me it is a song about the tragic death of young women caused by media & society since she's referencing Diana's & Marylin's death. These people really didn't get the song. This song actually shows the loneliness of suicide and the darkness that a human feels when they think of it. In no way does this promote suicide. I personally feel this song is a scathing statement about society and media, about the manifold sorts of damage the media and our society does to young women, its culpability in the early demise of many of those women (famous or not), how we live in a patriarchy in which the media manipulates women to bring about what one can call "tragedy ****" for the masses, aka a means for society to see how much better they're doing personally. Then I feel the song is also about the absolute depths one can sink into, the isolation and alienation one feels that are brought about by depression and suicidal thoughts. And thirdly, I feel Princess Die is a portrait of the relationships between famous women and media, how this relationship is not symbiotic but rather parasitic, leaving behind only an empty shell and how ultimately this poisonous but unavoidable relationship has brought on the early demise of Marilyn, Diana and many more young women. Princess Die being, unmistakably, an indictment of the media and its culture and how it ruins people's (mostly women's) lives would of course get backlash from media groups, whether they wanted to understand the meaning of the song or not, is the inherent irony hidden in the song. Society loves to see its "role models" go down, people watch it happen with a mixture of shock and glee. That's not something they like to hear however, so they'd rather just help take away Gaga's artistic license and tear her down bit by bit for even suggesting it. In this case it's suicide prevention groups who have singled her out because she's a young, incredibly famous woman as if she were the only one ever to make music that alludes to "famous" suicides and deaths that have happened in the past (but then again, she's not a man who automatically is held to different standards - men are never pushed to be rolemodels as hard as women, funny, ain't it?). Protesting the works of women who are not perfectly happy 100% of the time isn't these groups' jobs, however. They should be working on the things that cause people to commit suicide first, attacking the sources: misogyny, homophobia, racism, mental health problems, s-xual/physical/mental abuse, physical illness, family problems, etc. before having the gall to point fingers at someone who has spent half her career trying to help people love themselves, be themselves, love life and be brave. She isn't glamorizing suicide, nor is she adding to the desensitization of the masses. She's making a statement, a difficult one to swallow maybe or one that may fly right over some people's heads, but never one that personally encourages or endorses suicide in any way whatsoever. Born Brave 2,072
Blah blah blah blah.... Gaga is trying to corrupt the youth of this country by promoting suicidal thoughts... she wants them all to drown themselves in the swimming pool and take too many valliums after they clean the **** off their fancy shoes.. literally. Clean shoes are a must for an effective suicide.. Be sure to write the note before you take the pills or you might not finish the note... By gosh she just told them exactly how to do it!! Word for word!!! She has to be stopped.. In other news half a year ago she created a multi-million foundation to prevent suicide.. so that was clearly a cover-up for her true motives. :derpga:

ZRocka85 0
I have to say that as much as I love the song, I do understand why this group thinks its setting the wrong message. Here's my 2-cents: GaGa has spent the majority of her 4 year career telling kids to be strong, don't give up, don't kill yourself, be yourself, be proud of who you are, etc, etc. And a lot of her fans are young, pre-teen/teenagers who are extremely impressionable. Yes she has fans of all ages, but I would say that a good chunk of her fan-base is between 12 and 27. Even into those 20's people are very impressionable and deal with a ****load of stress. And these people who are extremely insecure, look up to GaGa and take everything she says to heart. Then they see her dedicate all of these live performances to people who've committed suicide (seeing some of the people's responses on this board and hearing about some of her fans actions/reactions it makes me wonder if they would want to commit suicide just so GaGa would write something about them on Twitter..) and now has this song...doesn't it seem a little contradictory? Do I think GaGa is encouraging people to commit suicide? Of course not. However I do think it's slightly irresponsible on her part to not at least say something the along the lines of like "I've had these thoughts too at one time and I wrote a song about it, but please don't think that this is the way out. Stay alive and be strong." I dunno, something.
