Wow, J-Lo's fallen to #14 despite all this promotion. Looks like On The Floor really was a one-off hit for her here. While dance music hasn't died yet, there's a sense of the public starting to tire of it and only tolerating it if it's decent (whatever that definition means for some people). As much as I like Live It Up as a fun, summery song, I think we're starting to realise that generic tracks like these are here today, gone tomorrow, so we don't give them much of a chance to start with. If this was 2010 or 2011, this song would definitely have been huge but it looks like 2013 is the start of a change occuring in the charts and not in dance music's favour. Ballads (and not by Adele) going to #1, Bruno Mars having amazing chart success in the US, urban music making the beginnings of a comeback in the form of trap and parody, Justin Timberlake's urban music comeback and #1 UK single, the continued success of Emeli Sande's chilled out music, Daft Punk's unexpected success with mellow disco music, electro songs by Pitbull and Kesha flopping...Fingers crossed that ARTPOP is progressive enough and doesn't sound dated.

That's a bit like concluding dance music was dying in 2000 because Cher was unable to follow up Believe.

JLo is a 40 something artist with limited, sporadic success since the early 00's. She's not even someone like Kylie or Britney who made her career as a dance artist, so not all her old fans are on board with her post 2011 sound.

WHY are people loving Blurred Lines so much?!?!? It's so boring and uninspired, I just DON'T get it AT all :dies:

Selling more copies in a week here than ALL of his previous singles have in total, Robin Thicke's international smash Blurred Lines shifted a massive 190,572 copies last week, the highest tally of any single in any week thus far in 2013.

1 Robin Thicke/T.I./Pharrell 190,572
2 Naughty Boy/Sam Smith 105,251
3 Daft Punk/Pharrell Williams 88,136 (799,585)
4 Passenger 66,488 (386,423)
5 Jessie J/Big Sean/Dizzee Rascal 55,219
6 Olly Murs 49,431
7 Macklemore/Ryan Lewis/Ray Dalton 40,543 (347,979)
8 Rudimental/Ella Eyre 34,432 (445,123)
9 2 Chainz/Wiz Khalifa 29,695 (63,967)
10 Demi Lovato 28,064

13 Of Monsters & Men 21,096 (281,117)
17 Jennifer Lopez/Pitbull 19,249
18 Stylo G 16,757
29 Daniel Meriwether 11,322 (481,935)
35 Bruno Mars [Treasure] 8,675 ??

42 Ellie Goulding [Explosions] 6,845
81 Emmelie De Forest 3,404

Get Lucky topped the 100,000 sales mark for each of its four weeks at number one, and Naughty Boy's La La La did so last week, so it is the sixth week in a row that the number one single has achieved a six figure sale - the first time that has happened since 2009, when Alexandra Burke's Bad Boys (feat. Flo Rida), Cheryl Cole's Fight For This Love, JLS's Everybody In Love, Black Eyed Peas' Meet Me Halfway, The X Factor finalists' You Are Not Alone and Peter Kay's Official BBC Children In Need Medley took turns at number one to keep the level above the 100,000 mark for eight straight weeks.

Get Lucky itself managed five straight weeks above the 100,000 mark but finally slips below the level this week, selling a further 88,136 copies as it remains at number two - the 17th highest tally for a number three in exactly 700 weeks that have elapsed thus far in the 21st century. We should note that last week's assertion that it was the first single to sell upwards of 100,00 copies a week for more than four weeks since Cher's Believe in 1998 was erroneous (I made the mistake of searching only for sales at number one). Cliff Richard's seasonal selection Millennium Prayer did so more recently, at the very end of 1999, debuting at number two on sales of 87,718 copies, and then reeling off the following sales: 147,947, 158,328, 159,369, 170,256 and 112,956 before Christmas passed, and its sales collapsed.

Bloody amazing sales!

Album sales

1 Daft Punk 53,801 (217,892)
2 Rod Stewart 33,621 (143,622)
3 Laura Marling 17,665
4 Passenger 15,679 (94,288)
5 Rudimental 14,995 (146,752)
6 Bastille 12,904
7 Bruno Mars 12,722
8 StooShe. 12,673
9 Ellie Goulding 12,664
10 Emeli Sande 11,969 (1,1893,627)

13 Olly Murs 8,782
22 Alice In Chains 6,564
25 Black Star Riders 6,255
36 Wings 4,104
