William Orbit - Water From A Vine Leaf (feat. Beth Orton)

And you start swimming and swimming
And swimming and swimming and you never stop swimming until you reach the ocean. And you're swimming into the sunset. Without me...

And I find myself suddenly waking up, and there are four young girls giving me water from a vine leaf. Just dropping it onto my tounge.

Nothing more, you surround me. Break on through...

 Release me!

Celebrating the videos of Ray of Light with videos by their directors for other artists.

Chris Cunningham (who directed Frozen):

If this doesn't scare you gay I don't know *what* will!

Jonas Åkerlund (who directed Ray of Light):

Johan Renck (who directed Nothing Really Matters:

(Maybe Madonna liked those fashionably Japanese guys dancing jerkily?)

I'm so damn happy a house tune can get a Grammy nomination! A song that isn't mid tempo, doesn't have a chorus and is as far away from Rn'B you can get.

 Yay, Amurrica!

If Icona Pop time travelled back to the 90s...

Rebublica called their music techno-pop punk rock, but Melody Maker dubbed it electronica, a name that caught on to denote a much vider genre.

A Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray

30 years old this year, this instantly recognisable track is so different from most house/techno in that it doesn't rely on a heavy bassline, but is sparse and almost tinny sounding. I loved it instantly!

And you probably have done something iconic if a brass band covers your song!

Billie Ray Martin - Undisco Me

Undisco Me is an odd name for a song with an unmistakable I Feel Love feel.

But phwoarrrr...this is fabulous!

"I want someone to set me free
I want some other rhyme
I want some other beat
All the samples are all the same
I was on the verge of a coma when they came
They took me up
They came from some other time
From some other space
So insane
Now I move to the sounds of the place from where they came..."

Primal Scream - Don't Fight It, Feel It

Before their third album, Screamadelica, Primal Scream was your average British indie rock band. With producer Andrew Weatherall they created a hybrid of rock, EDM, dub and even gospel that proved very influential and hard to pinpoint.

Daft Punk cite Screamadelica as an inspiration and "one of the albums first to set off an explosion in our heads."

The cover even got its on stamp in a series of classic album sleeves.

NME called it "the druggiest album of all time", but in my opinion its universal enough for a straight edger to enjoy.

I'm gonna live the life I love. I'm gonna love the life I live!

Years & Years - Sanctify

By the way Ollie uses his body in Y&Y videos, you can tell he's an actor as much as he is a dancer.

I just don't get that the human is a white guy and all the androids are non-caucasians. Curiouser and curiouser...

Djaimin - Give You (Dancefloor Syndromad)

I can't listen to this garage house thing without wondering why I think its so fantastic and why it once topped dance charts worldwide.

It sounds as if it was produced in someone's bedroom and while the vocals are in tune, the singer's voice is shrill and a little grating. And it goes on and on for eleven minutes.

My best guess is that its the synth string loop that hovers above everything like a tingling mist of bliss throughout most of the song. Whatever it is, it pulls me in and makes me happy. And, like the lyrics go, I feel a sweet sensation growing on my skin!
