They're the third best selling girl of all-time (just under Spice Girls & TLC), debuted as 'rookies' and already won MAMA awards that were intended for senior artists, and their Crush album is still the highest charting album by a girl group on the US Billboard 200, so

Just to clarify, the Hello Kitty song was written for her Japanese fans. She's popular there, and her music video was directed by a Japanese person, as well as having Japanese dancers in the video. There have been positive feedback there. So let's not assume how people should react to it (based on our North American perspective) if the target audience actually liked it and didn't get offended
