For many of you who may have never heard of them, please read below for a simple yet informative introduction! Morning Musume (モーニング娘。) was formed in 1997 by Japanese producer Tsunku who soon after created Hello! Project. Hello! Project is a Japanese idol project, the umbrella name for a collective of female singers who are under contract with the Up-Front Group and whose recordings are produced by Tsunku. How has a nearly 20 year old group managed to stay alive to this day? Much like other idol groups commonly in Japan and Korea, they use a graduation system. (Most cases) After an idol has stayed in the group for an amount of time and feels ready to move onto their next chapter in life, they graduate the group. Most times this opens a spot to be filled by a new recruit. Morning Musume has transformed many times over the years. I won't go into too much detail, but their older material has some of their biggest hits. Here are a few! Love Machine (1999) Their highest selling single to date (over 1.6m total) Ren'ai Revolution 21 (2000) <--- the song that got me to fall in love with them! Do It! Now (2002) <--- honestly my favorite jam Shabondama (2003) This single introduced their sixth generation members Reina Tanaka, Eri Kamei, and Sayumi Michishige Morning Musume goes through multiple transformations over the years including musical style, members, visual, etc. Here are examples of a wide variety Morning Musume has delivered over the years! The duo former members Hitomi Yoshizawa and Rika Ishikawa had formed. I dk if they're still active though.
