"Rhythm Nation" is still incredibly iconic to this day, from the song to the video to the outfit.

I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.

To me it was a "Goodbye 80s, Hello 90s" song. Deep, dark and forceful. The end of the old era and the start of a new one. Similar to Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode, or Lovesong by the Cure, all of which were recorded in 1989.

That song does something weird to my soul. I can't even describe it, it would turn me into a baby. Listen to Lovesong by the Cure, it has a similar feel.

1989 was the greatest year in history. Fall of Berlin Wall and I guess breakup of Communism, the birth of the world wide web, and prelude to the paranoid, nihilistic, lovesick and angst-ridden 90s.

EDIT: Sorry for going WAY off topic!
