DrewStevens 5,249
There is an impossible dilemma here - to pay decent royalties you have to charge bigger streaming fees which destroys the services as an attractive alternative to downloading, youtube, etc. This. Also it's not like these devices were earning way more than that per artist. The labels are the ones who earn the most of it. iTunes and Spotify/Pandora have the same percentages of royalties but obviously artists earn more considering the price of each song. Robotboy 1,700
in 2009 spotify gave gaga this amount for 1million plays for poker face. and thats 6 years ago. and only since last year they increased their payment with 70% spotify is doing it right. and its much better than piracy? i getting tired of educating you guys taylor only left because she got millions from apple and youtube to leave spotify because they create their own streaming services and wants to take spotify down. good luck with that. Remember that you are unique. Like everyone else.
Luc 4,772
That's probably because a huge amount of the revenue went to the label. Anyways, Spotify >> Pandora. Spotify gives 6% per 1000 streams, Pandora 60$ per 1 million streams?!

RAMROD 96,167
So what? It is not right. It is called business. So there are seller and buyer interaction. I am sure you understand this. If the buying power weakened, the seller will experience huge loss. If they keep on having loss than profits, they won't able to pay their artists to rent the best record studios and rent technicians, etc anymore. And once than happen, no one plays music anymore cos it is not profitable. They will all doing something else. Probably behind desks. It starts with one people, and domino effects cause greater impact than you could think might happen. holy scheisse 20,259
but this is only from Pandora. What about the other streaming services? annd actual purchases? and royalties from Despicable Me? wah wah, Pharrell Williams only has $3000 Most times, this is not the case. People just love freebies. id like to see your basis for jumping to this giant assumption about "most times." check your prviilege. we do not all derive from the same economic class where we can shell out money on the internet to purchase mp3 files
Brandon 457
But Spotify is great for artist! It's the promo of our generation. And they DO earn a lot from it! Spotify will lead to more exposure = promo, more chance to get more popular and earnings will go up due to being asked to perform or play in a commercial for example. Ideas of purchasing music is not making sense etc. You can look at many debates or discussions similiar to this. Same old same old. It is not that people are poor or privileged. I have poor friends that saved 1 dollar a day to attend his favourite band concerts. And to complete discography, he can do it, why can't others? When there's a will there always be a way. Reason is treason. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ be delulu until it becomes trululu (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡

Retep 0
A. While the issue at hand does deal with Pharrell directly you have to see the bigger picture and imagine the problem the labels put in, so many behind the scenes people are likely making even less from this mess. B. I hope this gets reported on a higher basis so people can realize what's going on and there's less of an outcry towards Taylor, she was honestly beyond right with her assessment and choice and may even influence these services to pay more to the artists who spend a lot to create art. C. If this is how much Pharrell brought in with one of the biggest singles recently just imagine what other artists (especially smaller ones) are being paid out in the long run. comrade 33
yeah. so? the way artists earn their money has changed. when are they gonna realize that and stop complaining about streaming? i'm sure pharrell received some hefty amounts of "happy" dough through another channels that were made possible because of the streaming success his song had.
