I think it was perfect for the perfume campaign. There's even one interview in France, where they show a little bit from before they start the interview and she says something along the lines of "if I don't look at you whilst I'm speaking, it's because I'm performing for the camera". omg i love that. her whole life is a performance And I don't like when people write off Eau de Gaga as her going back on her word and just releasing another perfume for some quick cash. The genderless perfume idea is just as innovative and connected to her past work as the black liquid idea. I feel like a "genderless" perfume has been done before though. unis-x scents? although i think the idea of a unis-x scent is kind of odd because perception of a scent really is subjective. either way though she did not create a film to the caliber of FAME for Eau de Gaga, nor did she go on such an extensive campaign. I mean she obviously didn't do as much as she with with Fame, that doesn't mean she's going back on her word and just releasing a perfume for the hell of it to make some money.
