Human Rights Watch said that the Ukrainian army may have committed a war crime when it kill16 civilians with unguided grad missiles. The group says that the grad systems are just too inaccurate to be used on populated areas. HRW is calling on both sides in the conflict to stop using this kind of weapon if it wanted to avoid civilian casualties. One of the authors of the report said the Ukrainian military should be held accountable for the killing of civilians.  :awkney:

Who is killing the civilians?

Well, the fights are taking place in the part of the country where the Ukrainian official Army is trying to regain control over the territory where the vast majority of population is against the new president and generally against the change of the President which they blame to be unconstitutional. Therefore, it seems like Ukrainian Army is killing civilians because they are using the missile systems which are not accurate and often hit the civilian areas in cities like Luganstk, Donetsk. It is basically the same story as with Israel rockets killing civilians in Gaza, but for the fact that the Gaza-Israel tension is a long-going conflict, while in Ukraine the story is more controversial and there are a lot more questions.

Explain why Odessa and Nikolaev protest against Ukrainian government.

That's what West and East Ukraine don't see eye to eye.

The West was part of Poland or Austria for centuries, and the East part of Russia.

Explain why Odessa and Nikolaev protest against Ukrainian government.

I am not aware of any protests in this particular cities. I just know from the friends of mine who used to live in Kiev till the recent events. I have read there are some protests in several Ukrainian cities because many young recruits are sent to the eastern part of Ukraine to fight the so-called separatists. There have been several mobilization waves in the country, it's like when young recruits who serve an obligatory term in the army are sent to fight the separatists. Their parents and friends are against it, because although the official army is a lot stronger than separatists in terms of weapons, there are casualties on both sides.

Apart from that, the war seems to be devastating. It is strange though that the government continues to try to portrait those people as "terrorists". How could they have not noticed so many terrorists living there before? I mean those regions are very  populated, the city of Donetsk alone has (probably had) over 1,000,000 people. I refuse to believe those terrorist appeared out of nowhere and started to pull the eastern territories to make them join Russia.

The funny thing is that the media is completely ignoring the news about the civilian casualties in the Eastern Ukraine, as it never happened. Type "Ukraine" in google news and you will see over 3,000 news articles. Type "Ukraine civilains" or "Ukraine civilian" and you will get slightly over 20 articles  :noparty:

It's just a couple of days ago that The Washington Post has published an article with the Human Rights Watch report on the Ukrainian government using extremely imprecise rocket systems in the populated areas. The regions where the fights are taking place had an estimated 6,500,000 population before the conflict, so, unfortunately, the casualties among civilian people may grow.
