According to my materials from English morphology clases the foreign words ending in -is change the ending to -es, but I kinda feel that VOLANTES sounds a little bit weird :laughga: but grammar says so :ohwell:

Well it could be like english with the mantis/mantises thing. I think because -us and -is are commonly homophonous in English as /ɨs/ (or similar depending on dialect), the -ī ending of the nominative pl. of the 2nd declension is erroneously applied to all Latin nouns ending that way.

 

/voˈlæntɪs/ > /voˈlæntiz/
