It expanded to 2,770 screens the next weekend and earned another $14m, before slowly playing out to the tune of $65m domestic and $115m worldwide on a $17 budget. So you have a film that didn’t score the biggest opening weekend in the world, and really didn’t earn that much at the box office, but nonetheless was a big budget-to-gross hit and continued to play strong both after its theatrical opening weekend and after it entered the home viewing circuit where it sold around $100m worth of Blu Rays and DVD and created a platinum soundtrack. It wasn’t a preordained blockbuster, but merely a somewhat unique film that captured a portion of the cultural zeitgeist and is now primed to capitalize on its loyal and ever-growing fan base. It turned Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson into genuine celebrities and became a massive favorite among the young female demographic. Surprisingly, a bunch of straight guys in my area and from what I've overheard love Pitch Perfect cause they think it is freaking hilarious which it is but it made me angry for a bunch of my friends giving me crap for watching Bridesmaids with my sister They're also beginning to like Mean Girls which I also saw with my sister two times when it was in theaters.
