Jay Z: "Music became free, but people will pay 6$ for water"

Maybe music should be free though. It might weed out the money hungry crap makers like Jay-Z and actually make careers for people who are passionate about making music without necessarily having a dollar sign to look forward to at the end of it (see: millions of wannabe singer/songwriters on YouTube)

Water is (becoming) a limited resource. Music will never be a limited resource. Jackass.

I´m from Norway and that quote :rip: (We drink from tap since water here is cleaner than other places)
and who the hell pays 6 dollars for a bottle of water? :rip:
Do you think Jay Z is out of touch with reality? :rip:
And I stole this from atrl :rip:

where in Norway? :)

His argument still makes no sense whatever the cost of the water. People BUY water because it is clean and filtered and tastes better than free water out of the tap. It's higher quality and you cannot get it for free anywhere.

With music, you can easily find high quality mp3 files to download for free. The exact same quality as the ones you pay for. So people don't feel the need to pay for music when you can get literaly the exact same quality file for free....

He just wants money...he doesn't care at all about the people who are paid less than him or other artists , like producers writers etc. that's just a reason to "convince" people to subscribe to his streaming site but the GP doesn't care about people who wrote / produced the music and also , most of the GP isn't stanning for no one...

People really feel like music is free, but will pay $6 for water.

People would get mad if you tried to take away free water fountains and free tap water in restaurants. Same way trying to eliminate free streaming may not be the best way of selling music.

I buy bottled water even though my tap water is fine. We actually have a fancy purifier under the sink to make it better for drinking. But Voss and Fiji are just so good!

The sheer decadence speaking about 6 dollar water shows that he is out of touch with the common middle class so much :toofunny:

People that just pay their bills and are happy to make ends meet every month will think twice about getting a service like that for 20 bucks. Creating memories with a song is great and all but it does not bring food to the table, poor guy forgot where he came from.

It just makes him look so stupid.

I mean Jay, if you want more money, teach Bey how to write properly and you get a bigger share of the cake. If you treat your 15 writers a song like **** and give them a bad deal it should not be the responsability of the customers to pick up your tab. People that love your music and care for your artistry would be happy to pay 1-2 dollar extra on an album but not a monthly deal covered up as "money going to the people that really need it" cause if that was the case you would not be getting the biggest slice of pie of them all.

I don't really completely understand how this all music industry stuff works but I'm sure everyone in the higher ups are loaded and can distribute the money more effectively so that writers and producers get a bigger share. Maybe even a bigger share then the artists themselves since they'll make up the difference with live performances.

Tidal makes sense if you think about the water comparison this way:
People can get water for free or buy it if they want something specific (whether it be taste or quality), therefore the same can be said about music, which means, you cannot take away our free streaming away because it'd be like taking away our free water.

Tap water isn't free because you pay water bills :awkney: plus music is for entertainment & water is a human necessity...

Bottled water is not necessarily netter auality. It's just from a different source and therefore has different amounts of each mineral, doesn't mean its healthier though. Unless you live in a country where tap water isn't clean.

It's not that water is a necessity, it's that people are willing to waste money on many things, but music? Nuh uh!
