Updated the stats of Rihanna and Taylor Swift.

In November 2012, according to Billboard / SoundScan, Rihanna has already sold 58M digital tracks as a lead artist. With the inclusion of the updated sales of Unapologetic's singles, Rihanna's US digital song sales, as the lead, are now at 70.45M at the very minimum. Her overall US record sales, as the lead, are now at least 80.45M.

In October 2013, still according to Billboard / SoundScan, Taylor Swift has already sold 70.6M digital tracks since her 2006 debut. Adding the sales of the released tracks from her new album, 1989, Taylor Swift's US digital song sales, as the lead, are now at 73.34M at the very minimum. This pushes her overall US record sales, as the lead, to at least 96.14M.

Note: The reported digital song sales which were not credited to any particular single or song by Billboard are compiled as "others" under the "album tracks" of the four artists.

Taylor's U.S record sales are massive and they're growing in the hundreds of thousands each week with 1989 + 2 songs in the Top 10 on iTunes.

Her total WW record sales haven't matched Gaga's though if I remember correctly. She may be gaining ground over seas, but she's still very U.S-centric.

Katy's lead over Gaga (~70M compared to ~61M) is pure singles. Take away Roar and Dark Horse and Gaga has Katy beat. Unfortunately, that's not how things work. No matter how you got there, 70M is still an impressive amount.

Look at how much came from the PRISM era alone too:

Roar: 5.6M

Uncon: 1.2M

DH: 5.6M

Bday: 600k

TIHWD: 500K

PRISM: 1.6M

Total: 15.1M records sold in the U.S from the PRISM era alone. That is massive for an era now-a-days.

That's crazy 23 Platinum singles as a lead artist. She's heading for at the very least 25 Platinum singles by the end of the 1989 era.

Updated stats for Taylor Swift. She has shifted over 696k from 1989 and its two singles alone - pushing her minimum career sales to 98.35 million. At this rate, she's on track to pass the 100 million career sales milestone before Christmas. The other only contemporary solo artist in the SoundScan era, specifically during the digital music era, who's close to reaching 100M US record sales is Eminem. He's currently at 95.721 million US record sales at the very minimum (50.811 million digital songs sold, as lead, at the minimum + 44.91 million albums sold as of March 21, 2014).

That's crazy 23 Platinum singles as a lead artist. She's heading for at the very least 25 Platinum singles by the end of the 1989 era.

She also has three other songs which are at around the 800k-900k digital sales range + three more at the 700k-800k range. And most of these songs got their last updated stats two years ago.

Hopefully Gaga's stats get updated when she crosses 10 million album sales in the US. Did anyone know if they did that when Rihanna hit the mark last year (I remember that they had an article about it)?

-Taylor Swift has now passed the 100 million record sales threshold this week thanks to the continued success of her multi-platinum album 1989 and its first two singles. She's the first ever artist, as a solo, to achieve this milestone in the Digital Era (2005-present). The only contemporary artist who could rival her sales is Eminem, who greatly benefitted from the massive album sales in the pre-Digital era (early 2000s).

Congrats to both Taylor and Gaga! I wonder if they'll do an article updating Gaga's album sales like they did with Rihanna when she hit the 10 million mark last year.

Also, the same article lists Poker Face's sales as 7.2 million.

Updated. Thanks for pointing it out.

And yes. I hope Billboard does come up with an article too. But they also may not, considering they didn't make one for Justin Bieber when he hit the 10M career album sales mark, well as far as I'm aware of. According to Paul Grein of Chart Watch*, Bieber's SoundScan-reported album sales stand at 10,630,000 from his 8 releases since 2009, and that was still as of June 23rd of this year. Bieber has most likely reached the 10M milestone in less than 4 years, way earlier than Rihanna in November 2013.

*Bieber's album sales (along with Avril Lavigne, Justin Timberlake, Maroon 5, etc.) were mentioned under Kanye West's photo, ranked at #20 of the slideshow listing the top new album acts since 2000. @chartnews on Twitter has also reported Bieber's career album sales - https://twitter.com/chartnews/status/481883392062283777

_______________

And speaking of career album sales, here are the top 6 best-selling album acts of the SoundScan era (1991-present):

1. Garth Brooks - 69.8 million units sold (as of Nov. 21, 2014 via Billboard)

2. The Beatles - 65.73 million units sold (as of May 30, 2014 via Chart Watch)

3. Metallica - 54.36 million units sold (as of May 30, 2014 via Chart Watch)

4. Mariah Carey - 54.28 million units sold (as of May 30, 2014 via Chart Watch)

5. Celine Dion - 52.23 million units sold (as of May 30, 2014 via Chart Watch)

6. Eminem - 45 million units sold (as of March 21, 2014 via Billboard)
